Hi

In recent discussions with the major R2 DVD studios I have been asking about the possibility of DTS discs. To help would you please offer opinions on any of the following:

1)Would you like to see DTS as a feature on future R2 releases?

2)How many of you are able to "play" DTS?

3)If so, would you like to see it on the same disc as a DD 5.1 track, which may result in some extras being missed off?

4)Do you prefer DTS to DD5.1?

Grateful for any other opinions

In answer to your questions
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes (but more dvd-18's like terminator with both on and loads of extras would be appreciated)
4. It depends on the transfer but yes (although i prefer the dolby digital teaser sound sequence at before the film than the DTS one.

I always prefer the DVD's to sound as close to the original theatrical release where possible with new releases (obviously old releases are a different kettle of fish) so Dolby Digital is fine by me.
Mind you I haven't heard DTS on DVD yet so maybe I don't know what I am missing.
Suppose either system is far better than Pro Logic and certain to piss of the neighbours!

If the studios want to cut out the grey import market then they need to treat all regions with the same quality of releases as R1.

Some films deserve the full treatment in DTS (Most notably Saving Private Ryan) and if the UK release fails to provide sufficient extras or the (In my opinion) extra sound quality of DTS then I'll gladly give my money to the importers instead of my local HMV.

My answer would be yes to your questions, I have had a bias towards DTS ever since getting Private Ryan on R1 and have always sought out the DTS version of a disc rather than the DD 5.1 ever since and even ordered the DTS R1 version of MIB in preference to the 2 disc R2 special. I think there is an appreciable increase in sound quality with DTS over DD and would prefer better pictures and sound to a fully loaded disc with extras. This preference for DTS has finally been vindicated, having last week taken delivery of the Ultimate Terminator 2 Disc, and being able to do a direct comparison between DTS and DD there is no doubt in my mind that DTS is the superior sound format.
