0800 is free on contract orange phones.

However, mobile operators know which calls are data as opposed to voice (unlike on a landline), and Orange have said they will charge for any data calls, even if it's on an 0800 number.

Don't know about other operators.

Most of the Providers allow free 0800 for Authoried Charities calls, but charge for all other 0800 Business calls

0800 on Orange contract also does not include 'Calling card' services which are charged at the normal rate as well as data calls.... Hence the game of 'cat & mouse' with such companies as Telco that change the '0800' access number as soon as Orange identify & ban it !
