Any other Aimee fans out there? I sometimes think that I'm the only one. I always thought that she would become huge following the "MAGNOLIA" movie/soundtrack. But it didn't seem to quiet pan out... Such a shame. One of the best female artists around.

Following female singer-songwriters does feel like a rather lonely pursuit in this forum sometimes... however, you're in luck! Welcome to the best female artist thread. There are about a dozen FMs in there who've mentioned Aimee Mann.

She's clearly a very talented songwriter, but I can't say that her music has reached out and grabbed me. Still, I've only heard half a dozen of her songs. She's perennially on my list of artists to listen to some more in future.

Yep, she's one of my all time favourite singers, saw her live in Manchester last month and she was amazing.

Aimee Mann is one of my triumverate of all time favourites along with Leonard Cohen and Eddi Reader.
She is absololutely fantastic. I have loved her since hearing Jacob Marleys Chain on the radio one day and spending weeks trying to find out who the hell she was. That was about 7 or 8 years ago and I have all her stuff. Am finding her latest a bit hard to get into tho - maybe a slow burner. I love her voice and her relaxed singing style - she calms me down when I get angsty.

Glad I'm not alone! "SAVE ME" is probably my all-time favourite song. Stunner of a song.

Also loved her stuff with the band 'Til Tuesday back in the 80's.

'Voices Carry- The Best Of 'Til Tuesday'- not a dud track on it .

Saw her several years ago in a Liverpool gig - literally standing 6 feet away from her and the stage was less than a foot high, so "real up close and personal". I like her latest "The Forgotten Arm" album, though after 5 or 6 cracking tracks at the start, it actually tails off in the second half for some reason

I love the "Magnolia" soundtrack and the "Batchelor #2" album the most out of all her work, though the live UK CD single disc 2 of "Stupid Thing" is probably the best consecutive 4 tracks she's ever released, IMHO.

Strangely, I picked up the live CD/DVD she released earlier this year, but haven't had the time to watch it yet !

I've long admired Aimee Mann - been lucky enough to see her at places like the Mean Fiddler and Shepherds Bush Empire as well as Hammy Apollo, and each time her (and her terrific band) have always been superb.

"Whatever" is quite simply a fabulous debut album that everyone should at least hear, if not buy. I've already stated on another thread that it's one of those albums "...without one bad song on it".

Unforunately, though, she appears destined to remain a "cult" artist - her record company wrangles between "Whatever" and "I'm With Stupid" put paid to any chance of rivalling her peers like Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morrisette at that time - even the "Magnolia" effect didn't seem to help raise her profile - shame.

Still, she seems quite happy with her lot, judging by her happy countenance @ the Apollo a year or so ago - gleefully accepting song requests from members of the audience passing her pieces of paper with chocolate as a bribe to play "Stupid Thing"!!

You know, something in me quite likes the fact that I know about Aimee and not everyone else - I feel somehow closer to the artist if I'm in the minority that appreciate them - ditto Ron Sexsmith & Jellyfish...

The "MAGNOLIA" soundtrack has to be one of the best soundtracks ever.
