Justin Hawkins has attacked chart topper James Blunt saying the ‘talentless fool’ should be left to the sharks.

However, The Darkness frontman, who’s currently working as British Whale, wants Blunt to stay at the top because he thinks it will make his on music sound even better.

He said: "If I were in charge I would insist on more and more dreary men with acoustic guitars.

“Then The Darkness and British Whale records will become the must-haves for anybody who has ever had anything positive happen in their lives.”

As contactmusic reports, he continued: "Long live the dullards like James Blunt. There are some wretched, talentless fools among the current crop of stars, whose records ought to be melted down and used to build vinyl rafts, upon which they should be set adrift in shark-infested waters.

"Some of us like to get on with it instead of whining like ninnies."

How arrogant!
I can't believe him really. The Darkness had one good song, one OK-ish song, and then faded away. I think it's jealousy.

And I think he's got a lot to be worried about, I've heard abit of his solo effort...

Hes just winding people up!!! It all very tongue-in-cheek! Duh!! And Justins solo stuff sounds a bit rubbish to be honest! But take that back about the Darkness they rock!!!! THey have loads of great songs! And I would prefer to listen to their stuff than James blunt, hes good but he is a bit dull n depressing!!!

You're right, SlashNX, it is blatantly tongue in cheek. Shark-infested waters, British Whale, 'This Town Ain't Big Enough for the Both of Us'... it's a publicity stunt, geddit...

It's an execrable cover of a great Sparks song. But still, The Darkness have made me laugh a few times, whereas James Blunt makes me fall asleep.

Mind you, I seem to remember The Darkness having a good song once, and that does put them one ahead of Mr Blunt.

They released:

Growing On Me
I Believe In A Thing Called Love
Love Is Only A Feeling
Christmas Time (Who Is A Bell End)

Don't forget those were only the singles, from their album, which they are still writing another.

"I believe in a thing called looove"

Only part I remember from them. Only SONG I remember in fact. At least James Blunt is unique. How many other people have albums such as Blunts in the UK high in the charts at the current moment? How many people can put to paper the experiance of war? Not many. I'm sure Mr. Freddy Murcury Wannabe couldn't. He should just go take the time out and get a hair cut, and stop wearing such silly clothes

Replace Justin Hawkings with "pot", James Blunt with "kettle" and "talentless fool" with black, and it's a bit more accurate.

James Blunt is a boring waste of space who makes me want to throw a brick at the radio every time I hear him, but Justin Hawkins is a one-trick pony comedy act who sounds like a tedious indie fanboy who wouldn't listen to anything apart from guitar music. The Darkness did a few decent songs, but does anyone seriously want to hear a second album?

For either of them to say the other one is terrible is a bit rich.

I don't think he's unique by any standards, at all.

Good on Justin for coming out with this - I think he's spot on.

I heard him on Radio 2 a few weeks ago talking about the industry, downloading, record labels and artists and he seems to know alot than alot of music journo's.

There's Daniel Powter, David Gray, Stepen Fretwell, James Blunt - all sound roughly the same to me.

don't get me wrong, i think justin is a bit of an arse, and have blunt's album, but in answer to your question, there seems to be load of male singer/songwriters around at the moment :

jack johnson, daniel powter, tom baxter, bright eyes' i'm wide awake its morning album, ben kweller, willy mason, tom vek, and damien rice and david gray both have some new stuff coming out.

Bright Eyes and Willy Mason subjected to sitting alongside David Gray and Daniel Poweter.

I thought better of you Iain.

Look, I have absolutely zero interest in James Blunt-Object but this type of comment really does my head in: "A load of male (or female) singer/songwriters". For crying out loud, are fans of popular music so jaded that being a singer-songwriter of either gender is considered unoriginal!! What do you expect, hermaphrodites? Visitors from Mars? Performing something other than music? (Not that that's at all unusual....) And anyway, how many all-male guitar bands do you happily listen to? Why is it that THAT particular formulation never seems to be criticised?

well, insomuch as they're male singer songwriters - i'd certainly take bright eyes and willy mason over david gray. only heard powter's single - which is kinda ok i thought.
