The cast isn't too diverse and it's set by the countryside. Seems awfully boring.

so just cos its set in the countryside you think its boring? Well the thought of 5 housewives in the suburbs bored me to tears... but the actual programme was brilliant. Dont judge a book by its cover.

Emmerdale is wondefully written and never seems to hit a dull point like Corrie and EastEnders do, it's quite consistent.

I used to hate it being set in the countryside and would cringe at all the cows, fields and chickens. Me being a city boy. But the characters and storylines have won me over BIG time.

Have you ever watched Emmerdale.

I began watching it before its title was changed from Emmerdale Farm and have continued to do so because of its consistency with story lines and the impact some characters have had on the show.

Emmerdale, is by far, the best soap around, these days... I mean when you compare it to Suicidal Eastenders, its easy to see why people enjoy watching it...

It's funny, and sensitive, serious, and downright outrageous, all in one episode.. the characters, are interesting, even the boring ones have hidden depths... and there is more scope in the country...

you should watch it, it'll take a few days to follow a specific storyline, but you'll really enjoy it...

No, the set appears to be a lot of solid buildings, that may be just for the external shots, but I do think they are actual buildings..

Emmerdale, at the moment, in my opinion is going through a sticky patch. It isn't funny, and nothing dramatic is happening that hasn't happened before

Emmerdale is incredibly consistent and has rich humour and drama at times when other soaps have the balance wrong (ie, EE no humour, Corrie too much!). Btw, I love all 3 soaps, but I have never switched off from Emmerdale whereas I stopped watching the other 2 for periods in the late 90's.

Emmerdale can get terrribly boring on times, but some episodes are brilliant. Its very hit and miss. I can easily miss an episode, especially with it being on 6 nights which is too much.

That's down to ITV though, it's amazing that they can keep consistent, being on 6 times a week.

Well thats the problem with Emmerdale I suppose , bearing in mind it was known as Emmerdale Farm , sort of gives the game away that it is a rural soap. I mean it would not have the same feel if you filmed it on the M62 now would it.

Its like any other soap you either like it or you don't. As for the cast being too diverse , surely thats better than all being clones of one another.

Emmerdale is awesome. It's got a good mixture of highs and lows so that when there's a depressing storyline you know that at least there will be some light-hearted storylines too. It's exciting and all the characters are believable. I think it got better now that Kelly has arrived. I loved it when she and Dawn started to fight in the street. It's moments like those that make Emmerdale fun to watch.

I've tried to watch an episode, but I don't find it entertaining in the least. EE will Always be the best soap. Never dull, I've watched it since I was a litlle girl in 1990. I've tried to wtch others brit soaps, but none compare the rawness of EE.

And life by the hillside doesn't appeal to me at all.

Emmerdale is the best soap there is on terrestrial tv at the moment. Lots of drama and comedy and next to no misery. Thats why I find it so enjoyable. Especially the bitchy classic comments.

I loved the fight on Monday between Dawn and Kelly. That was a classic!

Emmerdale is by far the best soap on TV. The relationships between characters are fantastic, built solidly and are never compromise the personalities of the individual characters!

The comedy element is just right and the storylines trot along at just the right pace!

The characters are constantly evolving and they have traits that are believable and reflect society.

The storylines are well thought out and the quality of writing is excellent. You can really hate some of the characters while others have you in tears.

Lastly, the talent of most of the actors is incredibly high. Mark Charnock, in particular has such a wide scope of acting ability - he can be comic, tramatic and serious, and his heartbreaking scenes over Tricia's death were vastly underacclaimed. The development of Verity Rushworth as an actress since she was paired with him has been fantastic.

If you want boredom, trivia and misery, watch Eastenders, otherwise, tune in at 7 pm on ITV!

Congratualtions to the Emmerdale cast and crew - you deserve more critical acclaim than you get!

ps Viv and Avril, last night, had me in stitches!
