How do you import the hidden track on "As heard on Radio Soulwax" into iTunes? It (Soulwax remix of "Can't Get You Out Of My Head") comes about four minutes before track 1 and it doesn't show up as an AIFF when you insert the disc into the computer - so where is it and how do you get iTunes to rip it so it can be put into the playlist in the correct position?

I also wanted to do this with the hidden track on White Ladder by David Gray but never found out.

I did try searching the web but most of the results were about how to deal with hidden tracks that come after the rest of the album.

Maybe someone on DS will come up with the solution.

Is track 1 really long compared to the others?

Perhaps the bonus track is at the beginning of the first track, but there's a long silence before it starts?

How to explain? Put the CD into a "normal" CD player and press play and track 1 starts playing at 00:00. Hit the "search" [<<] button and the track rewinds past 00:00 to about -04:16; press "play" and it plays the hidden track.

But when you open the CD in iTunes it only plays forward from the start of track 1; there's no way to "rewind" to -04:16 and the AIFF file on the disc only appears to contain track 1, not the hidden track. Does all that make sense?

Wish I knew how to do this too - also why some CD players won't read backwards, and some do?

I find it more annoying (and much harder to rip) when they stick them on the end as part of the last track, with a huge silence in between.

I've had no trouble ripping hidden tracks (such as the one on White Ladder) with Exact Audio Copy, using the "copy range" function. Set start position to 0:00:00.00 and end position to whenever the first track starts (shown in the main window).

I've heard that some CD-ROM drives will refuse to read before index 01 of the first track, but I've not had a problem with any of my drives.

Perhaps Cdex would be capable of it, as it shows the exact time in minutes and seconds that the track is positioned on the CD. Search Cdex on download.com

Don't you just use an audio editor with a waveform display to crop out the silence?

The fact that iTunes does this at all is one of the many things that I like about it (shame about it being rubbish as a music player). Although two trips to the same info->options dialog to set the times and rip the track twice is still a pain. But yeah, iTunes doesn't seem to let you put negative values in for the start/stop times.
