Steve Brookstein Slates X-Factor
X Factor winner Steve Brookstein has launched a scathing attack on the show after being dropped by his record label.
His comments came as Simon Cowell admitted that the runners-up, Louis Walsh's G4, were the real winners of last year's series. "The show gives you a platform but then pulls the rug from under your feet by making you sign to a certain record label and having no say in what happens next," Brookstein told the Daily Mail. It should be about music and talent but it's not. "The X Factor is all one big theatre - it's turning music into the WWF. It's about killing music to make light entertainment. I've now got to break away from The X Factor, which is fundamentally cheese and regarded as so by anyone and everyone in the industry." "It should be about music and talent but it's not." Obviously, since you're the one that won the last one. We've heard nothing from him at all. I'm not surprised his record label dropped him. These comments are just out of spite and biterness. |

I liked him in XFactor and I voted for him but all he seems to have done since is note-for-note identikit copies of original songs - what's the point of that.

Good, hopefully that's one less reality TV winner we'll have to hear from anymore.

G4 were clearly (as far as the public were concerned) more popular than Steve Brookstein but they came second. Gareth Gates was widely expected to come first but was beaten into second place by Will Young (I am not taking sides on who had the best voice). Something very fishy going on there!
I think that someone high up in TV Land decided that Gareth Gates and G4 were going to be a massive hit anyway and would survive being put in second place. By placing Will Young and Steve Brookstein in first place the TV Company maximised it's investment from the free publicity they obtain (and wouldn't have gained from a second place). |

I know you lot always sneer at posts that begin "A friend of mine, who works on the production team on that show...", but TRUST ME. Will Young won every single vote in that series. Gareth was NEVER in the lead -- it's just that the press assumed he was, and nobody in-the-know corrected them. On the production, Will Young was always the favourite to win, and if you ever meet anyone who worked on the prog, they'll confirm this. I promise.
Time to end this urban myth about GG. |

Steve was boring and uninteresting...
If he breaks away from the X-Factor thing I'll be amazed... |

from what I've read about this Steve main complaint has been that he has not been allowed to release any original stuff, that he has spent less time performing live since he won the competition than he did in the previous 12 month and that Simon Cowell buggered off to America and on holiday when they were trying to get his album out - which was full of covers which he didn't want to do. Don't you think its interesting that all this has been in the press a couple of days before the new X Factor starts - whats the better we see Steve on it at some stage performing his new single

![]() Oh... sorry, I never read the book. But I understood from an earlier post that there was (still) a widespread feeling that Gareth had been "cheated" out of victory. All I was saying was -- he wasn't. He had never been expected to win in the first place. |

So, you like G4 (heaven knows why, but fair enough), but they're against this average old guy. Noi need to vote, they'll win anyway. Then that equally grim Osbourne woman manages to get the fella masses of sympathy support, on top of his fans voting en mass due to thinking (and probably being right) that he needs it more. Play that out again for the Will Young final. And there's really no issue as to who had the best voice between Will Young and the kid he was up against ffs! Conspiracy theories are for losers. Always seems to be that way, anyway. |

As a Will fan I must correct the statement that Will won every heat. He actually won 5 times (and the final) and Gareth 3. No-one else got a look in! Gareth won on the Big Band week (Mack the Knife) and Abba (One of Us) and the No.1s week (can't remember what he sang though). Will won the rest.Quote:

I feel terribly sad (in the I must get out more sense of the word) even saying this so long after the event but I couldn't decide who I wanted to vote for between Will and Gareth so dialled for both. Now this is NOT meant to be provocative but I got straight through for Will but couldn't get through for Gareth even though I tried and tried and never managed it.
I was glad then that Gareth had success as well Will because I thought they were both talented and both deserved it. |

We tried to vote for G4 in the final but kept getting a dead line. We also tried to vote for Aled Jones in the Strictly Come Dancing when he lost to Julian Clary and had the same result.
When I complained I was told that it was probably my phone company as some block those kind of call numbers. That isn't true because I didn't have problems at other times. Also I suspect when that happens some people try one of the other numbers just to see if they work thereby giving a vote elsewhere! |

It makes no difference to the TV company who wins. They have nothing to do with the record company. Why fix it?
