BB : Providing psychotrophic drugs to the housemates.
Calrissian
15-06-2002
I am a libertarian, let people do as they wish.
However, for BB to start giving out drugs to contestants is really a great dissapointment.
I thought the whole idea of being deprived, was missing out on things that we love and desire.

**
RE: drugs. Nicotine may be legel, however, it is classified as a psychotropic (mind affecting) substance. Alcohol is also likewise including in ALL official medical classifications.

I expect no one to dare counter me on the above classification, nor the terms that i use. ALL terms are perfectly CORRECT. To say that BB is providing psychotrophic drugs IS a fact.

I was really starting to enjoy seeing the drug users starting to freak out, as they realise the limited funds they will again face if they are poor. But oh no, BB decides it is now ok, to start providing psychotrophic substances.

I am VERY dissapointed.

For any of you out there who dont read me right, think about this. I love chocolate, which contains caffeine - a very powerful stimulant, -yes, it IS A DRUG. Yet, does BB want to give out chocolate supplements (were they available) ?

Its double standards. I can only think this is being done, because BB assumes that one of the drug users is going to walk out, cause they can'nt cope without their hourly fix.
Those producers are clearly afraid of seeing there show fall apart.

Are the rich housemates allowed to take their existing supplies of cigarettes/tobacco with them? As a smoker (yuk, yuk, yuk) I think I would go absolutely bonkers on the poor side without - poor sods are so deprived as it is - my heart aches for them!!!

My understanding is that they're allowed to carry about any items they brought in, and keep hold of them throughout their stay (it's unlikely that they would still have any of their original fags left though), but they have to RETURN any stuff that they won from the task, even if they stay in the same side.

I think its because Spencer shouted that he would "Trash the House" if he did not get some cigarettes soon.

After Alison had used up all there accidental damage insurance I think the producers had to do something, I as a smoker can understand C4 not wishing to be seen to encourage smoking which we can all accept is a major health hazard, but it will have cost BB more for the gum than it would have done for cigarettes.

Cal
you've assigned "drug" such a wide meaning as to render the word meaningless. The word means different things in different contexts, but you've applied them all at once!

Psychotropic actually means mind or MOOD altering BTW.

Now here is a good idea. Ten people, nine weeks, no evictions, no nominations, no seventy grand prize. Just an unlimited supply of drugs of all descriptions and we see who is left alive/sane at the end of it.

You love chocolate which contains not Caffeine but Theobromine. An easy mistake to make as they both belong to the class of alkaloid molecules called methylxanthines - of which there are 60.
In fact Theobromine has less effect on the central nervous system than Caffeine.
Caffeine occurs in coffee and another methylxanthine called theophylline is present in tea.

Just a point of information...........

I've been in a lot of "anti-drug" arguments over the years, and I hate it once it gets to the stupid nit-picking of "Drinking coffee is drug use, eating chocolate is drug use". When you get to that level, pretty much ANYTHING is wrong. Creeping up behind someone and saying "boo!" is wrong because it releases adrenaline into their body and gives them a buzz.

So really, let's just think about the fact that BB gibes them the same legal recreational drugs they would buy from an off-license.

Plus the show is more fun to watch when they are drunk.

And when YOU'RE drunk: I find THAT helps.

Jack
sober right now.

Legally, making someone jump by saying boo CAN actually be quite dodgy....

I'm just making the point, that surely we want to deprive them !
We make them eat trashy basic food, yet now, cause some guy says he is gonna go crazy, they just give in.
Its just lame.

They seem to quite clearly want to make them suffer, so, lets see them suffer. No drink, no cigarettes, no exceptions.

And i re-emphasise, i am a libertarian, i dont care what people do to themselves, as long as they dont do it in my presence. So, go thinking i am some tea drinking freak, who wants to lock everyone up.

Cal mate,

agree with you re: the wussiness of BB - they should have just let Spencer trash the place, shouldn't they? It's HE and the others who have to live in it after all, not the BB overseers (or whatever they call themselves).

I think Callie would agree too.

No Alcohol = Sleep = Not entertaining

Same with cigarettes.

But then, I don't want to deprive them of stuff, they were perfectly entertaining the first two weeks with a £400 budget and no divide...more so than they are now.

Cuuh.

Spencer threatens to trash the place, so Big Brother... gives in to his demands.

Next they'll be putting Big Brother into the house and giving Spencer total control of Big Brother's life...

Big Brother is fast becoming like the teacher whose desk you used to p1ss in.

I don't know about booze, they'll be dishing out prozac if the mood and condition in the house doesn't improve.

Don't forget alcohol is a social lubricant and this is a TV show primarily about social interaction.

I think they should keep booze in the house but drinking to excess like Kate and Jonny have done recently is slightly worrying.
