Racism in Hollyoaks - Contains Spoilers
Hi, ive just been watching hollyoaks, and this whole racism storyline that has been going on for months, and i also read the spoilers as to what happens to end it all, and basically, am i the only person that thinks this is completely the wrong way to handle this story?
ok, in case you dont already know, Macki and his gang have been harrassing ali and his sister darlene for the past few months now, because hes black. theyve beaten him, taunted him, threatened to kill him, thrown bananas at him! and the way that this all ends, is ali decides enough is enough and stabs macki, killing him in the process. he then runs off and gets run over on the way home. so basically, what do we learn from this? macki bullied ali until the only way he saw out of it was to kill him. should we not be teaching children, teens mainly that watch this show, that there are other options? i know its a soap that reflects real life, and these things are happening every day, but for a show that is aimed at people whos opinions are still always changing and being influenced, could there not have been a better storyline to handle this? |

I also feel that with recent events in Liverpool fresh in people's minds, continuing this storyline is rather tasteless.

But how far in advance are these things filmed? It may have been filmed before the tragic stabbing in Liverpool. I 'm not sure with Hollyoaks though, EE is a few months in advance.
