Well, as a tip (and this isn't an ad but a personal opinion as I have no connection with the company) I can recomend Nicorette inhalators to try...I'd tried and failed many times to quit and they finally worked for me....they break the psychological connection between buying cigs, and all the other paraphenailia of smoking. Plus, I had someone point out to me to "use my stubourness".

Also, I came to recognise my 'nicotine daemon'...this is the part of my brain which whispers little words in my ear to try and make me smoke even now years later. I'm convinced that a part of ones brain in nicotine adiction acts almost independantly - monitoring blood nicotine levels and giving a little nudge to the rest of the brain to keep the level how it likes....it can be a little nudge to pick up a cig and light it, or it can be as extreem as getting you to want to go for a walk which just happens to end up in a corner shop and just happen to "accidentally" order a packet of cigs, and then just think what the hell I may as well smoke them now....listen for that little voice (I don't mean it's an actual voice!) that lives on nicotine, and be prepared for it's sneaky devious ways it'll try and make you fail to quit so it can stay alive.

I now picture my own nicotine daemon as this little shriveled old dying mini devil who only now and again manages to summon the energy to try and whisper the odd word to try and regain his former glory...

...hey, it works for me!

Fan-at-ic wow- thank you, I'll try to keep that in mind it's very sweet of you to write all that!

It reminds me of how I deal with my spider phobia (but I better not go into that here because I don't want to come across as a Jade clone!)

No problem - I'm thinking of writing a book on quiting smoking using this idea of a daemon...think it'll sell? As someone who's done it I have lots of anecdotes...it would only be a half serious book...who'm I kidding, I'll never get the time to write it if I spend all my time watching BB and writing here

I can understand Spencer saying he doesn't mind which side he's on so long as he has his smokes. I'd probably be the same way, I wouldn't mind living in the poor side but if they took my fags off me as well as having to look at smug Alex trying to enjoy smoking through those bars..... Lets just say that the Big Brother security guys had better get their Nikes on to stop me causing some severe damage to a very expensive set, not to mention Alex.

Which is more addictive - heroin or nicotine ?

This is used in drug education courses all over the place and it's amazing how many get the answer wrong !!

Clue - one of them is legal and makes manufacturers a fortune and gives the Govt. millions in tax revenue. (Just in case Jade needed some help !!).

...and nicotine has the added problem when trying to quit of being available everywhere and pretty much socially acceptable...ain't nothing worse when trying to quit than just going out for a night and seeing everyone flaunting the thing you crave more than anything in your face!

Now, those who can't understand Spencer's outburst, imagine being without food for a week while right beside you are people eating a feast...then imagine having the chance to eat if only someone would choose you and they don't...instead they choose someone who's been eating well the whole week and who doesn't even seem to be too bothered about it....and then try and understand why you might have a little moment to freak out....

So Spencer has 'extenuating circumstances' for reacting badly to being kept on the poor side... but they weren't the cause of his remarks about Alex's sexuality and that's what got him stuck there for another week. I'm just glad that 'what goes around, comes around' and his pathetic remarks have bitten him in the ass but good!

I come from a family where little jibes are a token of affection and everyone is expected to be able to come back with a jibe of their own. My view was that Spencer only started the little jibes about Alex when he felt they were getting on BETTER.

I had a similar experience many years ago when I left home to go to Uni and I was shocked to find that my little jibes with no maclice were taken seriously by some people and with great offence. I had to learn to resist saying things in fun just because I couldn't tell how people would react. I certainly never saw Spencer say anything about Alex without a smile and a little look which to me showed he wasn't serious.

Yes, he probably should be old enough and just about world wise enough by 22 (?) to know that some people don't react in the same way, but Alex could easily have said something too rather than silently holding it against him....then again, this is a game show and Spencer was foolish giving away such an obvious excuse for a nomination.
