I am a long running dvd owner and am very pleased with my multi region DVP 725D dvd player. I have seen the successor of this player in my local sony centre and just have a few questions about it. I hope someone can help answer them.

Apart from the cosmetic differences (e.g. smaller box etc) what is the difference between the two machines or are they the same. Also why is the new player £50 cheaper than mine!!

The 735 is not the replacement for the 725,it is just an additional slimline silver model,to go with their silver range of avs and tvs.
The 725 has dedicated hi-fi audio components,whereas the 735 has not.Hence the 725 has better sound,according to a guy in my local hi-fi shop who has heard both.
He also reckons the 735 is not quite as good in picture.
Both the sound and picture of the 735 could also be down to the slimline case not being able to accomodate better components.
We know the 725 is a good player as everyone has already reviewed it and not the 735.

As far as I know the picture on the Sony DVP-S735 is better than the 725, as Home Entertainment said that the Sony 735 was pushing the limits of DVDs capabilities. Movie sound on the players will be similar on the two devices aswell. however the Sony 725 has an R core transformer which fundamentaly improves CD playback more than the DVD sound playback. The Sony DVP-S735 features a built in DTS decoder aswell as Dolby Digital. However many of the differences are subtle, and it is difficult to tell the diifference between the two players with the naked eye, performance wise.
