You missed the context of the comment - there is a large Jewish contingent in Goldmans. I believe it was also founded by Jewish immigrant to America.

No I did get the context - I think! - that he got the job because
a) he's Jewish or
b) his father's contacts.
I was merely wanting to rule out 'a'. There is also the possibility that he got it on his own merits. That does still happen in the City, doesn't it?

I said he didn't look Jewish (hence that can't be the reason he got the job).
Plenty of people get jobs in the City on their merits, especially their first. Then on it seems to become a world of merit, politics and backstabbing - amazing how small the City really is.

Goldmans was traditionally a Jewish run firm, not sure if it still is. No nastyness in this, it was and maybe still is a fact. The Jewish community in London is fairly close knit as far as i can tell, so it's more likely that your parents will know someone who can help you get a job. After all who would you rather employ, someone you have spoken to in an interview for 1 hr, or someone you have known since they were born. At least with the latter you can be a little surer of what you are getting.

Lucy, who has claimed that Tim is Kuwaiti? All the info I've read says he was born in Kuwait, not that he is Kuwaiti.
It won't matter one little bit to Jade anyway, she'll probably think Kuwait is a little backwater on the Kent coast.
