Rick Astley to release a new album!
Hey folks,
Love him or hate him, you cannot deny that Rick Astley has got one of the most excellent voices that you will ever hear, and now he is shedding his "S/A/W puppet" image and going back to his roots and releasing an album full of cover versions. They are songs Rick grew up listening to and loving, and has now made his own. “I grew up listening to my parents favourites like Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Andy Williams and Matt Monro. There songs resonate with me many memories and as a musician these tracks are timeless to me,” Rick explains. Although he may have chosen to spend some time away from the public eye, musically Rick has been working consistently since the 80’s and has spent the last decade honing his songwriting skills and collaborating with a wide range of artists. Having been approached by SonyBMG to make this album last year, he has chosen now to step back into the spotlight with an amazing collection that is sure to give the likes of Jamie Cullum and Michael Buble a serious run for their money. An album of soul covers.
Always the last throw of the dice for the desperate If he put out some original stuff as good as 'Cry For Help' he might just have another hit. But he's been a long time forgotten. |

Rick Astley? Never Gonna Give You Up? If he's been "honing his songwriting ability", why is he releasing an album of covers?
I'll have to inform my mother... |

Another album of covers of old standards - no doubt yet another million seller! So much for his faith in his songwriting!

Lord Digby - trust me, his voice is even better than it was in the 80's - went to see him in Manchester last year and his voice seems to have mellowed even more and is so smoot and rich.

Aside from memories of his awful hairstyle in the 80's and his embarrasing 'dance', I can't forgive him for murdering the Nat King Cole standard 'When I Fall in Love'.
So now it's mass murder with this new album of classics.......... |

This is the type of comment that you come to expect - I mean, the hairstyle, hello - it was the 80s! Yes, the dance WAS awful - and Rick admits that he cannot dance, but was told do do so by his puppeteers - and as for the so call murdering of When I fall in Love - most people will disagree there mate!

Well we have seen Tony Christie's revival, so why not Rick Astley's.

I hope this revival will be slightly different - the reason Tony Christie was so popular was not initially for the music, its beacuse it was tied in with Peter Kay and Comic Relief - but he has certainly capitalised on it!
Let the music speak for Rick! |

Tony Christies return to celeb status started well before Comic Relief. He teamed up with All Seeing I on Walk like a Panther.
A highly underrated singer |
