Oh for goddness' sake:
Leanne,
you made a statement purporting to be factual. If you actually know what you're talking about then you should be able to answer a simple question about your source / authority / or at least WHAT UNION you are talking about. Your hostile, defensive and rather childish reaction just tells me you don't know what you're talking about.

Until you say something of any sense I have no more desire to communicate with you.

I feel I have said enough. I don't intend to qualify every post I make to you. Do you see yourself as some kind of viglante ? I feel you should continue to make your own posts and stop following me around attempting to discredit every post I make. ”

You like to think that you're right all the time don't you? You also seem to think that I have something against you, for whatever reason. Just to break your little ego bubble I don't follow you around, attempting to discredit every post you make. Why would you think I do that? I just read the forums and argue with people I disagree with. That's human nature.

I feel that you should not take every little thing so personally and try to partake in adult discussion. If that isn't something you can do then maybe you shouldn't post 'facts' as such.

As for trying to discredit you here, in this thread, I haven't, and didn't. Again I advise you to re-read my posts. I was not the only person who asked where you got your information from. If you can't provide a source then there is no reason that we should accept what you say as fact, that's simple enough.

I don't know how you, of all people, can describe me as childish, after your first post about me on this thread. As for the union rules, I know them to be fact for reasons I have made clear in previous discussions with you. I do not intend to search out and quote union rules in this forum. Therefore, you can either accept my comment as fact, or you can ignore them. Either way, it means nothing to me.

Thank you Fr. Jack, just what I was thinking.

I would in all honestly just like a straight answer to what should be a simple question, but if Leanne feels she can't tell us which Union this directive comes from then I would also be inclined to assume that she can't substantiate the comments.

Leanne, nobody is asking you to search out and quote union rules, we would just like to know what union you are referring to. Why is this so difficult to get across to you???

I have a genuine interest in this because I am a (sometime) director of a small independant comapny that produces stuff for the likes of VH1 and as diverse as the Scottish Executive.

I shall amend my previous comment. The worst job in the world is trying to get a sensible, non-hostile answer from LC.

You have to laugh.
There is no such 20 minute working restriction. Cameramen/women working on the snooker work as full a day as the rest of the crew. Full stints, no swapping or whatever. And no self respecting cameraman would be seen dead in slippers.

Just another troll post.

I wouldn't mind a job as a 'gadgey' if it meant 20 minutes shifts! Stuff the slippers though I was born in stilettoes

I don't read every thread, but I wouldn't mind knowing what union you are referring to. Maybe I'll just have to ask my mate who is a camerman with the non-advert channel

I used to be a cameraman, and have NEVER heard of this 20 minute rule! I've done camera jobs that have gone on for hours with no problem at all. Nowadays, many TV production staff aren't even in unions anymore - I for one am not... they cost a fortune to join, and when you have a problem, or a company your'e working or freelancing for goes belly-up, they're usually of very little use at all. (From my experience anyway. )

While you're about it - European law says your not supposed to work more than 48 hours a week... I can tell you that I know a lot of cameramen and editors who work a heck of a lot more hours than that a week, and often without overtime! It's a competative industry, so people can't afford to be awkward over working conditions etc. Sad, but true.

Please do, I'm sure we'd all like to know

All I've found referencing anything to do with camera work and time limits is that BECTU are trying to get the minimum break time raised from 5 minutes (EU commission proposal) to 20 minutes.

Great image that!!!!

Mind U the cameraman I was watching in Regent Street on Friday doing a 'piece to camera'... ooh techy or wot .. was standing up for a good deal longer than 20 mins.

Also, for the record, he was not wearing slippers - pretty lucky really as
(1) it was raining
and (
2) an open-topped busload of Japanese tourists were ruining his shots with their incessant flashing!!!!

Tourists - can't taken them anywhere can ya

Geesh - what a to-do in this thread, all because someone says something as fact and then refuses to say where it can be verified...Haven't you all read rule 231 of the United Friendy Federation of Web Users?

"Thou shalt beleive everything someone posts without question"

And the next person who asks me where they can find that rule to check it can go and stand in the corner for 20 minutes filming the housemates....

Did anyone catch what Dermot asked the cameraman today at 7 something PM? I'll tell you. He asked him what time he was on duty till. The cameraman replied 1 AM. I'll say it again ONE A M. Which is more than a little over 20 mins
I now understand LC's comments even LESS (if that's possible)

Judging by her comments to us, I really hope LC is VERY pretty.

oo goody a law question. My favourite.
In terms of weekly working hours, the 48 hour Regulations, which are the UK implementation of the Working Time Directive are designed to prevent employers forcing employees to work over 48 hours averaged over a rolling 17 week period. The maximum number of hours allowed in any ONE week is 53.
However, employees can OPT OUT which means they are prepared to work over that. It doesn't matter whether it's overtime or not.

If you know of instances where people are being FORCED to work over 48/53 hours you (or they really) should seek legal advice:- Some Solicitiors do 1/2 hour free sessions.
