I've got to say it sounds unlikely to me... RTD has said that the TV Movie is recognised as part of the show's history (despite what some fans think of it) and so I'd be surprised if they were ignoring it.

They'd be far more likely to just jump straight in with the new actor you mentioned and make an oblique reference to a regeneration/escape/the Time War or somesuch. I guess it's either a stunt of a red herring.

I had read somewhere (Oupost Gallifrey, maybe?!) that would be playing . A bit tacky, though, to bring into it!!

Incredibly unlikely - if they are bringing said person back they'll start afresh as with Doc no. 9.

I keep remembering some of the tricks the Dr Who team played during the lead up to the Bad Wolf revelation.

Remember when they "accidentally" put up that web page showing a picture of Adam just before the final episode, implying he was Bad Wolf?

So this could be another red herring. In a way I hope ASH does have a role that can be re-occuring. I was quite hoping he'd get picked to play the Doctor himself, but a regular character would still be cool.

If it is a red herring, then it's unlikely that ASH will be playing at all...

The fact that the character's called is a bit obvious innit?

The character of will return to DOCTOR WHO.

He is a "cost-effective" device (unlike the Daleks) and will, in the same fashion that Jackie & Mickey "anchors" the TARDIS to Earth, be a repeating character once the TARDIS visits other planets. A familiar face in even stranger surroundings.

Now that the DOCTOR WHO series has been introduced to a whole new audience mythology will be drip-fed in the series. However, it would be a miscalculation for the Producers to re-introduce three vehicles in episode 2 (should that be the case) - those being; Sarah Jane Smith, K9 and . Too much in one go - you'll have to explain Sarah's past, K9's past and past.

The casting of will be allocated to a 'heavy weight character actor'. And, yes, the character will be male.

A more mature threat to the young Doctor would be perfect.

I'd still like to see or even undertake the role.

Hate to burst bubbles - but I was very much under the impression that RTD is very anti the Master returning ... so maybe this story is a wind-up? Alternatively, maybe the theory RTD's led everyone to believe is a wind-up?! Who knows? But I'd be kind of surprised they'd do it so soon into the series. Think they've been very wise not to over-rely on the "classic" series and to try and invent some new aliens - it'd be a shame if they blew it so soon by dragging back too many oldies all at once. Less is more!

Bear in mind that Rich on Lying on the Gutters (where the original quote is from) only gave this an amber light (where green would be the most reliable, and red the most unreliable).

I hope it's true though, it would make me very happy.

Long term, I think The Doctor benefits from returning arch-enemies and during the original run of the show,
I still think this is one of the production team's big wind-ups. And I'd love Anthony Stewart-Head to play a good guy rather than a bad guy.

I rather think ASH would make rather a good baddie - so long as he is dreadfully urbane.

SJS & K9 are one episode only nods for the old fans, to be honest, it could probably be any character, but allows the BBC to sell the older DVDs.

Are you sure about that Shrike? I know Gallifrey was destroyed but was it actually deleted from time all together? The Daleks weren't.

I'm sure the Doctor said something like that. And he was adamant that there were none alive when he met Rose.
However thinking about it if they were deleted from time then how did the tree-woman Jabe's database have an entry on time lords? And why did Jack think they were only legendary rather than not know about them at all?
However I do remember reading in one of the Jon Pertwee era books that if ever the time lords caught up with the Master he would be punished by having his time line thrown into reverse, so that he would never have existed. But then he wouldn't have commited his crimes and then...
