Wasn't it BBC3 - the madeup channel in the Daemons?

Wouldn't worry too much about it, weren't the UNIT years supposed to be set in the near-future - eg if they did tham now - they'd probably set them in 2015! Guess someone thought the digital revolution would becoming much sooner than it did!

At the time 'The Daemons' was made (1971) there were only three channels, with what is now Channel 4 vacant (although channel allocations existed for it). Both BBC and the ITV companies wanted to launch their channel on it.

Conventional UNIT dating places the events of the Daemons to about 1972 or 1973 (much like the Slitheen episodes in the new series being placed 12-18 months after their respective BBC1 transmissions).
