It's not uncommon for someone to jump before being pushed. Personally I never had a problem with him or Spencer Moon.

Well good on him for forcing the Sun to get its story right.

If the BBC had wanted to sack him they would have - they have done it to others. I don't think you need to have a big ego to object to it becoming 'common knowledge' via the tabloids that something happened to you when it didn't.

I think no matter what anyone thnks of him, the way the Sun intruded on his private life was uncalled for and nasty.

Reporting about career news is one thing, but the way the newspapers persecute people these days is disgusting, and they keep getting away with it.

At the moment he is the showbiz reporter on ITV1's This Morning.

I'd be pretty p*ssed off if my colleagues were told I'd been sacked when I'd actually resigned (even if it was a case of go before you're pushed) so it must be a lot worse if you're in the public eye. Good on him for making the Sun publish an apology.

I think he is quite right to demand an apology. The Sun goes ahead and prints what it likes for sensationalism, purely to sell copies, they dont care about the people behind the story.

If I ever left my job and rumours went about that I had been sacked I would want them cleared up pretty quickly. If nothing else, it could harm your next chance of employment, if people were to believe you were sacked.

The stories about him being gay were also out of order. The Sun pisses me off, practically every week there is a tiny 'we're sorry' paragraph as they just print any old shite.

Sorry, rant over!

I can't believe this story is still going on...... surely no one cares whether he was sacked or left of his own accord (although I remember Lucy Benjamin saying in a TV interview that axed people were given the choice to leave under the "leaving to persue other projects" excuse rather than the "I was sacked" one All he is doing is drawing more attention and speculation to the whole thing. It's not like it's ruined his career or anything because he's now moved into presenting and stuff.

I agree with you totally, Newspapers seem to have no limits anymore. They can print whatever crap they make up without recourse.

Then they use this 'freedom of speech' crap. It's not freedom of speech they want, it's freedom to make things up.

If they want to write fiction they should write a book, not news.

I agree, we had all forgotten about it and now he's brought it up again.

I agree with jon that the tabloids are often unnecessarily intrusive and seem to be writing works of fiction, but in his case I think he brought it on himself, due to that other bit of 'economy with the actualite' he indulged in (no need to go into it here, but most of you will remember what I mean). He did seem to court publicity, and then try to switch it off when it became negative.

Having seen him interviewed, I thought he came across as a self-obsessed ****. Which isn't to say that the Sun should tell lies about him, it just makes me less sympathetic if they do.

Well said.
If it was anyone else they told lies about, I would probably be angry, but with CP, it's OK in a way, Sorry...
