Cyndi Lauper is fantastic and is undoubtedly an influence, both in terms of music and style, on many female artists of the past 20 years.

Best songs have to be True Colours and Time After Time. I Drove All Night comes a close third (but that could be because I'm also a big Big O fan).

Oh my Gosh!!!!!!!!

How freaky I was gonna start a Cyndi Lauper appreciation thread, Cyndi is my number one favourite singer of all time!!!!!!!!!!!! My hero and icon! I LOVE CYNDI LAUPER!!!

She is a legend and is brilliant at everything she does.

I first discovered Cyndi when I was 9yrs old and she had just released Hey Now (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun) and her greatest hits Twelve Deadly Cyns and Then Some. Therefore Hey Now is my fav Cyndi song because it is the one that introduced me to her. Ihave all her albums except Merry Christmas Have A Nice Life and Shine, although I have the Shine EP.

I love 911, I Drove All Night, Boy Blue, Maybe He'll Know, That's What I Think, Sally's Pigeons is abeautiful song.

It makes me amd when I tell people that I love Cyndi and they say oh yeah Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, there is so much more to Cyndi, she is a great talented song writer.

Good to see she has a new album out on November 8th.

She is great! I was introduced to her work through 'Girls Just Wanna...' like most folk, but it wasn't until I heard the 'She's So Unusual' album years later that I actually found that she'd done some other great stuff!

My favourite is probably 'Time After Time' or 'She Bop', although I do love her rendition of 'True Colo(u)rs' as well

Yep you are definitely not the only one!!!

I live in Northern Ireland and it's not fair because Cyndi never tours here or any other parts of the UK and I would really love to go and see her!

Have u ever seen her?

Love how she dances and how she sings, how she dresses and colours her hair, she copies nobody and is so unique, she definitely has paved the way for so many other female singers and is an inspiration to other singers and her fans.

I like Cyndi (although never got around to buying any of her albums). "Sally's Pigeons" is such an amazing song. Haven't heard it in years. What album is it from???

Other great songs are:

The Goonies r Good Enough
All Through The Night
I Drove All Night
True Colors
Time After Time
Change Of Heart

Yep, only realised that last year when I read about it and then listened to the lyrics.

How red faced was I when I realised what I was singing about so loudly.

"Ain't no law against it yet."

She has some many songs i really like, hard to pick a top 3. but here goes.

1 She Bob
2 Money changes everting
3 Shine

Just have to mention this Carey all tho its not a Cindy track.

It is just pure magic when she sings, not that many "new" artists makes me wanna close my eyes and just listen to the music as when listing to Cindy.

I'm pretty sure there was a more successful thread started by Josho above for Bring Ya To The Brink, and as an appreciation thread.

But anyway, I love her.

Well i find it's a toss up between brink and Sisters of avalon, Hat full of start could have done a lot better as well, but i guess people was not ready take on that many diffrent subjects, that the album deals with at the time

I adore her 80s stuff and can play it over and over again (although She's So Unusual is, probably inevitably, the only one of the 80s albums which has that 'completeness' factor ie I'm always guaranteed to play it straight through in one go, in any situation). I do like Hat Full Of Stars and Sisters Of Avalon, but not as feverently, and I prefer SOA overall for its more predominent 'popness'. The subsequent schmoosy bluesy acoustic stuff is anathema to me, but Bring Ya To The Brink more than made up for that!

There is a lot of CYndi Lauper resurfacing recently, in the likes of Nicki Minajs recent stuff etc. and Jessie J covered Cyndi at the VMAs for her show.

Maybe a comeback ala Cher "Believe" dunno! But Cyndi is so freakin overlooked it hurts!

I adore Cyndi Lauper. It's such a shame that the majority of her output since the '80s has been generally ignored. The annoying this is, had Madonna released "Bring Ya to the Brink" it would have been a worldwide hit. Cyndi's so underrated in terms of songwriting and vocals. My favourite album has got to be "True Colors".

Favourite songs:

Calm Inside the Storm
One Track Mind
Change of Heart
Time After Time
Money Changes Everything
Goonies 'r' Good Enough
Hole In My Heart
A Night to Remember
Hat Full of Stars
You Don't Know
Fall Into Your Dreams
Echo
Into the Nightlife

In some ways maybe....i mean it was a corker album BUT....BYTTB was released in 2008 after a lot of the Electropop/Retro Dance styles were in mainstream Pop.

Madonna released COnfessions On A Dance Floor three years beforehand and already set a standad...so technically i feel she would have had a massive step backwards if Madonna did release BYTTB in my opinion....BUT i also feel that BYTTB is on par with Britneys Blackout as a solid dance album and actually better than Kylies X and Chers Believe (when released at the same age as Lauper)

I wouldnt say it was annoying if "Madonna released it it would be a hit" as that is technically what also makes Madonna and Cyndi so vast and different. Madonna always has a drive and work pattern that is so dedicated to the music and style. Cyndi however at that point in her career wanted to do somethin Dancey for the sake of it....and worked with some very slick European producers...and actually in retrospect it was and is Cyndis biggest selling album out of all her releases since Sisters Of Avalon....so credit where it is due! 200,000 copies worldwide aint bad at all considering her label are pigs to her!

But i am in love with Hat FUll Of STars right now....it fits in with the early 90s vibe...Soul/Clubby in places too but DEEP...and while its not a perfect record it is a striking one and very Brooklyn (where she grew up) in vibes. Very functional and personal album....the Stripped before Stripped if you will.
