Sharon and Dennis’s wedding looks set to be the happiest day of their lives — until their dead dad’s body is dug up.
Crazed Sam goes berserk with a pickaxe and unearths Den’s corpse in the Vic’s cellar in a desperate bid to finger Chrissie as his killer.
“She just goes totally mad,” says Kim Medcalf, who plays Sam. “She can’t bear the thought of Chrissie getting away with murder.
So she arms herself with a pickaxe and goes to dig up Den – and with him the truth. But her plan goes horribly wrong. Sam’s the one who gets arrested!”
Sam snaps as the wedding guests leave the Square to watch Sharon and Dennis tie the knot. She sneaks in to the Vic, smashes up bedrooms and tears up Chrissie’s passport and her plane ticket to Argentina.
Even being interrupted by Tracy doesn’t stop Sam. She knocks her out and locks her in the loo.
As the wedding takes place, Sam heads for the cellar and starts to hack at the cement.
“She’s lost everything and is bitterly frustrated that Chrissie’s outsmarted her,” says Kim.
“She’s sweating like a maniac and behaving almost like a crazed animal. She digs away frantically and suddenly Den’s foot is exposed. It’s grotesque.”
Upstairs, Tracy manages to escape and dials 999. The police break into the Vic and lead Sam away in handcuffs – just as the wedding party start to return.
Happy newlyweds Sharon and Dennis are astonished to see all the commotion outside the pub.
“Dennis tells Sharon it’s Den’s body,” says Letitia Dean, who plays Sharon. “But Sharon can’t take it in and goes into complete denial. She insists on going to the wedding party to cut the cake.
“It’s only when the body is brought out that reality finally dawns on her and she realises that it’s her dad. Sharon collapses. When she comes round, she is just totally distraught.”
Meanwhile, killer Chrissie is shocked to find her passport and plane ticket in bits. But, thinking on her feet, she pockets Den’s mobile and plants it in Sam’s flat.
At the police station, Sam can’t believe she is being held on suspicion of murder and angrily blames Den’s death on Chrissie.
The police grill Chrissie, but she cleverly shifts the blame back on to Sam and is released after Den’s phone is found at Sam’s place.
Has the lying landlady got away with murder?
