i posted this before months ago, but i think it would be interesting to see grant disabled in an accident and having to deal with life in the square and the loss of his hard man image - i think ross kemp could really do wonders with a diverse storyline like that and it would add a new dimension to the typical mitchell stereotypical storylines. also, i'm a bit disappointed about the lack of representation of physically disabled characters in soaps. i think it would be good to have an old character have this change, since it would be such a shock for the viewers to have to change their view of an established character...

sounds morbid, doesn't it?
but i think it's an important storyline to tackle.i've only ever seen a wheelchair-bound character in Emmerdale (i.e. chris tate) i can't remember any deaf/blind/mute characters or anything like that in soaps - although, to be fair, i suppose they would be hard to do... but no dyslexia storylines have been done at all!!!! and physical disabilities should be easy to portray on screen. EDIT: oh, eva leigh has just reminded me - stephen gottlieb had this storyline in neighbours years and years ago... also, i think Home and Away did it... |

I agree that there should be representation of people with disabilities, i don't normally watch Corrie but they had someone playing a deaf person the other day a relation to Emily i think.
I think it would be good i mean personally i socialise with a lot of deaf people and sometimes the way they get treated is atrocious it's like they become invisible to people when they find out you have a disability. Though i think i take more offence to it than they do as i can hear what people are saying, which they probably don't realise when i'm signing. Very useful in nightclubs to know BSL
