betting stings part 5
sorry to drag this up again but given the news
http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/ent...00/2056317.stm ..and ladbrookes hinting at stings, is it possable for bookies to refuse to pay out if they suspect (no proof) a sting. |

What with all the campaigns on the internet and on tv, not to mention email scams and betting stings, Spencer has no chance tommorow night. He's gone.

Bookies can suspend betting if they've taken more risk than they can comfortably cover.
Business is business, though, and if they refused to pay out to people who'd won legitimately, they'd never be given another bet to take again. So don't worry ![]() There's still no sting. For a dodgy betting ring to be truly able to manipulate the results, they'd have to spam the phone lines big time, and there's only 1.5 - 2 million votes going in, which isn't nearly enough. Also you'd expect there to be a lot more money about; Betfair has done only £100,000 on the 4th eviction market, and £30 million on football in the same period. Q.E.D. |

What I don't understand is....
Why they are still taking bets and why they started taking them in the first place. With all these stings, why do the bookies take the( and offer a good price) on something that can be so easily manipulated?

It wouldn't surprise me if they did. Do the press ever get on C4's case over the money making scheme they see BB as?

I heard it (the 51% figure) on rise.
However, at first I though it was their own pole, but I doubt C4 would let them run their own as they would want their shows to plug the officiall numbers (money) |

They did run their own poll earlier in the week, so it may have been either... I was preoccupied with the England match at the time

I reckon it'll end up at least 55/45 anyways with Spencer leaving.
