Just seen the folllowing@

Ann Montini's Soap Gossip 5/9

Enders bosses are keen to land the legendary Tommy Steele, all set for a sold-out season at the London Palladium in Scrooge the musical, for a brief sojourn in the soap. Yup, they want a real cockney. They told me: "He's an institution and people still love Tommy Steele. It would be a real coup for us to land him."

Indeed Tommy Steele is as big a legend as Barbara Windsor herself. The authentic cockney and the first Britisdh rock-n-roller. A huge star of the fifties, sixties, and seventies. One of the greatest popular entertainers of the twentieth century.

Mind you, it was the kiss of death for fellow 50s crooner Anthony Newley...

his musical career didn't really last that long - had the misfortune to just predate Elvis! But his career as an all-round entertainer has been ongoing. He has a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and like Barbara Windsor he really is an eastender (or perhaps was would be more accurate). Don't suppose, if it's true, he's being brought in for his acting talent. I quite like old Tommy myself. But what sort of character is he supposed to playing?

I always like the story, not sure how true it is - but I've heard it from more then one source, that he was so unpopular with the cast and crew when he appeared in the West End in Singing in the Rain that a certain something was added to the water tanks that created the rain during the famous dance sequence - I leave it up to your imaginations what it was

Err, horrible idea, an awful actor, even my Mum hates him - and she likes just about everyone, just the thought of him leering out of my tv, tombstone teeth knashing away is enough to put me off my lunch

The cheesy stage style grin is enough to put you right off.

I can just imagine it now ,Oohh Flash , bang whallop what a pciture, and Little white Bull will somehow make there way in to it.

God help us all , what next The Crankies , Little and Large , perhaps we could just have Eastenders Live from the London Palladium and have done with it.

Well, I'm all for this! He could be Dot's salsa partner. The Krankees would've been excellent in High Road and the Chuckle Brothers should join Emmerdale as Bob's cousins!

Just to let you all know... my sources tell me that Tommy Steele will not be making a Walford appearance and there are no plan for him either.

Cheers,

Kris
