I have a Sony RDR-GX3 DVD Recorder. The other day I put in a home-made DVD+RW disc, created on my PC, which I have used before no problem.
The machine kept making a noise as though it was trying to read it, but this carried on and after a few minutes I had to switch off the machine. Usually if it can't read a disc, it gives an error message.
Now when I switch on the recorder it makes the same noise and just displays "Power Off" on the display.
Can someone advise how else I can eject the disc (I have tried holding down eject and so on). Or is it an expensive repair job.
I'm not sure if it is coincidence it happened when I put in the homemade DVD or not.

This happen to me twice with the RDR-GX3 after which I changed it for the 210, according to Sony some shops received a bad batch.

Try this:
1) Unplug the unit
2) Plug the unit back in while holding down the eject button

How did you change it?

I took it unit back to Argos, before the 12 months expired

Took the cover off to look inside, but the drive is covered by numerous boards.

Do you mean hold down the button continuously (which I have been doing) or press and release repeatedly?

Tried that, looks like it's a visit to a repairer. Don't know if it's worth buying a cheaper model instead!

Mine's stopped recording now, just a year out of guarantee. Plays ok though.

Didn't I read somewhere that the sale of goods act had been ammended? Regardles of the manufacturer guarantee, goods now have to be expected to last a reasonable life time and so therefore you could argue you would expect a dvd recorder to last between three to fice years.

Manufacturers agree that if something is going to be faulty it will either be at the beginning or the end of its lifespan with a long period of use in the middle. This is called the bathtub effect.
