Start times !!!!
For some months now I have been getting fed up of the unnecessary programme overlaps caused by programmes deliberately starting late or even early in some cases. The culprits are normally ITV1 but today EastEnders didn't start untill nearly 8.05pm.

Now now, we both know that it's only ITV who are allowed to be criticised on here for start times

Well it's not like you missed anything. When EastEnders began the first Corrie episode had finished and when EastEnders was finished the second Corrie episode hadn't even begun.

I do agree Sulla. It was the BBC's doing tonight, they deliberately let it run late in hope of avoiding people switching over to Corrie for the first 5 mins. I wouldn't have bothered, Corrie was crap tonight, but then again so was EastEnders. I'm really disappointed, there were so many inconsistencies in tonight's episode however i guess this is the wrong thread.

You should see French and Swiss TV. If a programme is announced at 8:30 it can start anytime between 8:45 and 9:00 - but never before 8:45. Since I've had access to BBC1 and 2 I've been impressed by the relative accuracy of their timings. Things could be worse you see.

Both BBC and ITV are equally guilty of doing this. However its the viewers which watch the both of them that suffer.

I could understand a moan if you'd missed something but despite the out of sync start times this evening nothing was actually overlapped.

Sometimes I think EE do it on purpose to ensure you miss the first five minutes of The Bill...

And a solution to your problem would be to turn things over right away without listening to or watching the credits. |

The thing that bothers me is when there is a break on Corrie or Emmerdale way too early.
You just get comfy, sit down and are watching for about 7 mins then it's the commercial break! I swear, I was watching Emmerdale once and at 7:05pm (7:06pm at the latest) there was a bloody break! |

That's because ITV1 have to have a good 6 or 7 minute ad break when their soaps are on because it's the time when the most viewers are tuned into the channel.

That really annoyed me tonight as well. ITV have been starting Corrie at 7:34 for months now on a Monday, but atleast when you turn over for EE as soon as it ends, EE is just about to start or is in the middle of the credits, so you don't miss anything!
However, tonight they started EE far too late, i wondered what was going on! I switched over whilst EE was still running, credits hadn't even started yet but the cadbury sponsership was playing for Corrie. They should all just start at the proper times!

Well I didn't have the same setup as you guys.
My 2nd Corrie ep wasn't even starting when the EastEnders credits had finished and I turned over. |

Most of the time, Corrie starts at 8:30, ir about a minute before or after, but today, it started 4 minutes late. Luckily, it doesn't happen as much anymore! I think it's the previous show taking too long.

The BBC did it because normally EE viewers miss the first 3 mins thanks to itv for starting late. Good on the BBC for biting back.

![]() Just after ITV started doing this, BBC One began airing EE a few minutes late so when Corrie finished, EE was just about to start or was in the middle of the opening credits. |

I think some of it is regional, after all we get different adverts which will change the length of times between shows. That doesn't excuse early/late starts though.
The worst by FAR is tuning into The Bill from Eastenders. Almost always they are on the "previously" bit or quite often a few scenes into the show once I've switched over from EE. I don't know about anybody else. Also with Monday's Eastenders going into Corrie, this a regular occurance - I see the show has already started more often than the opening credits.. There is never a problem with Emmerdale into Eastenders, nor Family Affairs into Emmerdale. |
