What do you think of Hell's Kitchen USA?
I've enjoyed it so far, although some of GR's put-downs have made me wince.
I'm glad ITV2 are showing an uncensored version, although to be frank, with the number of times GR swears, a 'beeped' version would make little sense.
The American contestants seemed taken aback by GR's way of 'telling it like it is'...but do you think he is being unnecessarily cruel?

I thought it was good. Why did he stop presenting it here? This format is like our second series, right?

My thoughts are... how come no one has chinned him yet?

I get the feeling he's playing up to the cameras a bit more and has notched things up a bit - if he is doing this, then he has a hell of a sense of humor if you ask me

loved his line to the two women about getting the Maitre De to escort them back to plastic surgery that was a classic

I never watched the UK Hell's Kitchen (regularly anyway), but somehow I felt the need to see this, and I'm glad I did. Really enjoyed it. I did feel he was horrible just for the sake of it sometimes, but most of the time it was justified. Like he said, he's trying to get the best out of them, so even if they've done good, you don't want to over-praise them.

It was, of course, very American and very like EVERY American reality show out there...I can't help but wonder what the show would've been like if they followed our live formula, and eliminations by public vote. I don't know why US reality shows don't have more public involvement...American Idol is huge - would it be so if the judges decided the contestants fate?

One thing I did hate was the obvious voice over from Gordon Ramsay, touching up something that obviously wasn't clear enough when he said it first time, or that he didn't say. The same happens with Donald Trump in the Apprentice, and they make the BBUSA Housemates read task instructions two or three times to get the perfect edit...it's ridiculous, and ends up sounding worse than it would've done if they'd just left it alone. Gordon should've told the producer's to f**k off.

Just before Gordon Ramsey made his first appearance on the programme someone should have shouted out "I-N-C-O-M-I-N-G"!

Those Americans had absolutely no idea what was heading their way and I just loved the shocked look on their faces when they realised that Gordon Ramsey didn't fit their expectations of an English Chef.

LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!!!!!

Loved it when he called the 'Executive Chef' a plank... he had no idea what the term plank meant!!! Laughed and laughed at that one.

All in all - this looks as thought it could become addictive TV. The Americans loved it and it kept high in the rating charts... so it can only get better!

More Ramsay on TV!!!

Anyone who hasn't seen Ramsay's other programmes will be unaware of his hatred for the term "executive chef" because it means NOTHING! The word "executive" is only ever used by people who think they're smokingly good at their jobs, but are actually far more interested in the company car and laptop, and Ramsay knows it!

Thing is, nobody ever tells Americans that they're bad at anything. They will always sugar coat it. Remember when Louis Theroux went to an audition and obviously couldn't sing, and nobody would tell him he was god-awful? That's what they're used to, and exactly what they're not getting here!

BTW, I remember hearing a while ago that the Maitre de was badly injured in a fall or something. Does anyone know what happened to him? Has he recovered?

Yep. A whopping 853,000!

“Amongst the multichannels, ITV2 had a strong night thanks to the launch of the heavily-touted US version of Hell's Kitchen at 9pm. Fronted by Gordon Ramsay, the show pulled in an average of 853,000 (5.4%) to rank number one for the day.”

F#*@ing brilliant! Did you see those stupid dumb blonde girls faces, when he said so elequantly f@#k off!
Great TV, even though the Americans have a knack making cheesy stlye presention such as that awful "tension" music and annoying time compression transitions. Stop it, stop it now!

The "americanisation" of the programme though obvious was not as bad as it was for Wife Swap (US Style).

I think that American tv execs like to 'play up' the characteristics of imported Brit reality stars: I saw an interview with Kim n' Aggie ('How Clean is Your House') on This Morning in which they said they had to 'lay on' their 'battleaxe' image for their US show...and do British nannies really wear the getup of the ones featured in 'Nanny 911'?

Yup, loved the "plastic surgery/bimbo comments.

It's a bit like Simon Cowell's first outing on American Idol, isn't it? Bet they all thought they were great. There's nothing like seeing puffed up egos being deflated, be they any nationality.

But thanks Fenixx for pointing out why I thought it was all too American. Why does every American RTV prog have to have voice overs and dubbed bits?

It lacks the "rawness" of the UK version.

But they need someone like Cowell and GR. Great telly. I loved it.

It's SO annoying

I quite agree with this. I don't know why American TV companies over dramatise these kind of programmes. I mean, what is with all the constant background music, it really grinds when you get consistantly get "background" sound to accompany shows when it does not fit eg; Hell's Kitchen USA, Rebel Billionaire, My Family [oh the forced/canned laughter for a show that should have been canned after two series tops].

Other than that, great show, bout time someone from Britain tells some upstart Yanks where to shove it. I was quite suprised as Ramsay was criticised by the US press for "over acting", shame that they don't know him as well as we do on our screens; he makes expletives an art form!

Ramsey was so funny! I loved it. The Americans looked totally dumbfounded!

And that camp bloke, 'Dewberry' (what a name - only in America), well he was so going to get the bullit first.

(apologies to any forum members unfortunate enough to also be named Dewberry )

You would like a beeped version?

Nope, that would spoil it imo - its what Ramsey does. I thought the show was great and loved seeing the surprise on all faces (wannabe chefs and guests)

Bimbo and Plastic Surgery, how funny!
