Yeti in Dr Who.

someone else mentioned them in another thread but in my mind these were by far the scariest monster they ever had in dr who (maybe because i was so young when it was on..).

the web of fear had them in the underground and i can remember it to this day.

i think there was supposed to be a third and final yeti story with patrick troughton but some problem with the scriptwriters stopped it happening and they ended up making the story about the ice warriors (i think).

actually, the ice warriors...they were good too. how many stories were they in?

Ice warriors are in 4 TV stories I think, 2 troughton's (Ice Warriors and seeds of death) and 2 pertwee's (The Curse of Peladon, Monster of Peladon).

According to gallifreyone.com the final 2nd doctor story was originally to have been a 4 parter called "The Laird of McCrimmon" and would have featured the yeti in 1746 Scotland, though it doesn't make clear why this and the planned 6 parter to go before it were changed to the 10 part yeti free war games.

from tv.com...

A third Yeti story was planned, but when the BBC used Quarks from The Dominators in merchandising and comic strips without consulting writers Mervyn Haisman and Henry Lincoln, they cut off their ties to the show completely. The final defeat of the Intelligence thus had to wait for Downtime, a straight-to-video production in 1995 by independent Dreamwatch Media.

that would have been ME!!!

I was truly terrified of the Yetis - especially when they just came out of the underground tunnel at Whitechapel Road......

y'see, my mum used to work in Bow (East London) and we used to travel up to Whitechapel on the underground to go to the market......

and I can still feel the fear of having to stand on the station platform and just looking down the dark tunnel, waiting for the Yeti to come out...

*tremble.........*

(btw, I would have been about 6/7 years old )

It's still a scary place to this day, unfortunately for other reasons.
