I think Simon Callow set the bar for this... and he said he made his choice based on the quality of the writing.

And CE's involvment was singularly thanks to RTD - and the quality of his writing.

I am fed up with the knocks RTD's getting - it's all thanks to him that not only is the show back, but the quality of the leads and guest turns is as high as it is.

Annette Crosby has already played Queen Victoria in the excellent drama series Edwards VII, about thirty years ago; she was perfect.
