Just watched my recording of last night's show and this really is freaky... Perhaps the house is actually turning into an episode of Rentaghost, and Alex is Timothy Claypole....

I really want to see this clip as well. But it will also be repeated on C4 won't it? Sunday lunchtime?

And as for the cut itself...

It isn't uncommon to cut different SIDES of a shot these days. A lot of movies do it now. For movies, directors can have one take edited into the left side of the frame and another take edited into the right side, to get the best performances from both actor sinto the same shot. So I assume it is also possible for TV video editing as well. The only question is: WHY? What was their purpose? From the way you describe, it looks like a mundane static shot, with no need to do anythign complicated to tweak things.

it's not uncommon in film or drama, but not usually for 'documentary-style' programming, especially with the fast turnaround of the show. Not having seen the clip again, maybe it was an edit for audio, but they forgot to cover up the join with another shot - it's easily done!

bbgossip server works fine now for me. That captures the whole scene well - though unfortunately with my crappy computer I'm used to seeing people dissapear like that on real media feeds with frame rate I'm used to

I wonder if the same scene will appear in the same way in the Sunday weekend summary programme on Channel 4? I suspect not...

It was just shown again on C4 and i managed to get a recording onto tape. I was gonna turn it into a high quality divx file but i cant cos my pc software is all messed up (giving me all sorts of errors). So i'll have to wait till Tuesday when i get my new hard drive to sort it out.
