I'd hardly call Alex a weak character. I think he's a very strong character and as much as i dislike her Jade is also a strong character.

except Alex who would have fit in any of the BBs, tho' whether he would have been as popular is doubtful as in BB3 he has no competition. Jonny potentially was, but has proven to be too self centred and insecure... he is so worried about what everyone is thinking about him that it has virtually paralysed his real personality. Alex on the other hand just seems to get on with it.

LaLa - get your Teletubby mates in there over the wall. It would be easier to understand what they say than Jade, Sophie or Fireman Sam

The characters in themselves are fine, i think, but they don't seem (with few exceptions) to genuinely *care* for each other. They just act like work place acquaintances rather than friends.

So, to answer your question:
Friendly interaction is missing.

Yes...
I think it's because the task system has been so different - if they had had more substantial tasks, like before then they would have interacted more and supported each other more...and Jade might have learned somethign too.

Think of when Dean broke the world record for building the sugar cube mountain...

this year they've been given nothing to do, nothing to aim for and a sterile looking environment...hostile colours. It's no wonder they've all ended up backstabbing. There's precious little to do bar talk about each other now that the sex thing has worn off.

they dont have the parties they had in the previous BBs. Mostly I'm thinking of all the times last year when they dressed up in costumes. Elizabeth as a stewardess/frenchartist. Dean as a hairdresser. The tin foil costumes. Paul dressed as a woman. The orange themed party...........................should I go on.
Those were fun and everyone had FUN.
One of the best moments of previous years had to be the soap opera last year. I still smile when I think about it.

There's obviously a few floating about in there, as all the HM's have had at least one intelligent conversation (with the possible exception of Jade). Problem is, it's along the lines of that game "button, button, who's got the button". In this case, who's borrowed today's brain cell?

Precisely. [when Jack is "sober" he posts good stuff]

It's not only the absence of the weekly must-be-practised tasks. The divide also means that the discussions about how much to bet on the tasks are gone; the 400 or nothing food budget means that group debate over what food to get is gone (since 100stl a person means everybody gets what they want no questions asked). The HMs never are forced to work together as a team.

After one feeble attempt to initiate a discussion on childhood, BB gave up trying to get the HMs to reflect on themselves. So what's left - pointless Survivor-esque plotting. Some of this is fun to watch. Weeks of it aren't.

I've been accused of over-romanticising past BBs, but in last years one sensed that a core group really learned to like each other over time. Even Dean and Elizabeth who didn't like Paul, not only didn't throw hissy fits, like Kate, but grudgingly began to listen to him. I can't imagine this development happening at all this year.

Last year's HMs also taught each other things. I wasn't really that much of a Brian fan, but I loved his face that showed how proud he was at Elizabeth learning the airsteward drill.

I think that the problem this year is partly structural (although I do think the HMs are weaker).

In the third season, we now get HMs who go into it to boot-start media careers, and just play themselves to the cameras. [There's an interesting discussion on another thread of how Johnny may've studied the way to act in the house].

In the future, they really need to prohibit anyone who's been on a reality show before or had an agent, at any time.

Whtas missing is the public flogging of ladyboy alex and the public slaughter of the pig in the wig.

Alex, Jonny and Jade have pretty strong characters. That doesn't always make them likable but it makes them memorable. (although I do like Alex - lol)
