If there is something dodgy going on it's the way that Graham Norton straight after the nightly show has been telling people how to vote and RI:SE in the morning has too. It's one thing to express an opinion but RI:SE last week especially, with it's "Keep Alex In" campaign was way too biased for what should be a news based program. ”
While both shows are C4 owned, the producers/presenters do get to intervene as they wish.
It's no surprise, hello!, that Graham Norton would support Alex after a series of homophobic comments by Spencer's crowd. Notice that Norton chooses to have who he wants on his show (that means no Lees, no Spencers - but yes Lynn, Allison) (And I'm sure no Sophie, no Adele, no Kate etc.)
For RI:SE, they had Spencer's brother (or friend) who based the pro-Spencer campaign on prejudice ("Alex is as camp as a row of pink tents). Firstly, this was saying don't vote for Alex because he's gay (he's not, but that's another matter). Secondly, like who won last year's competition! Thirdly, media people (many of whom are also gay or gay friendly) aren't too thrilled with the line Spencer's crowd took. Notice that RI:SE immediately went to Narinder asking if the commentator was also gay - functionally this was RI:SE saying f***-you to Spencer's bro.
It wouldn't surprise me if the media got behind Sophie, since she's been bullied, just like a lot of them have been (it's a profession that has a lot of bullying in it as well).
Again, think about what kind of people actually work in the media, then you'll see why they support who they do. It's not a fix, media folk support people they think are like them.
