While I agree that Mr. Wey should have the book thrown at him for illicit eavesdropping on private radio communications, if the Home Office are still using unencrypted analogue transmissions in the 21st century, I have little sympathy for them - they'd have tighter security if they issued all their officers with mobile phones!

I agree, encryption technology is there. Why waste time and money trying to outlaw scanners when encryption is going to- be so much more effective.
I can hardly see many criminals/terrorists etc saying "scanners are illegal now, we'd better not use them anymore then". I mean, analogue radio reception is basic electronics - you could knock a scanner up with am electronics textbook and a trip to Maplin - outlawing them is a naive move that will achieve no benefit. |
