It's odd because when this year's BB first began, it seemed like they really wanted to explore racial issues, since they had 4 non-white HMs. But that all went pear-shaped.
What is an interesting question, I think, is why do the non-white contestants in British reality tv shows almost always (not 100%, but the trend is there) get booted in the first trimester of the show. Think of Narinder, Amma, Meeta and Ty (from Survivor 2). Of the first 5 HMs who left, 3 weren't white (Sunita, Allison, Lee). I know that some left, some were surprisingly voted off. But it is odd. Why don't non-white contestants "gell" with British contestants/audiences?
And, for what it's worth, its strange that Sophie is slagged of for spending so much time with one laconic, but black, HM, while Kate isn't.
And, to protect myself against attacks! While you might not think race is an issue in the house, Adele certainly does. When she first came in, she mentioned explicitly that she usually likes being the only non-white in the crowd (to be "special") but was happy to see Allison. She then nominated Allison out of a sense of betrayal, and her nomination of Lee seems to have something similar to it.
Simply because race isn't mentioned, doesn't mean that non-white folks don't know that it's being considered. I still remember the look on Lee's face when Sandy was talking about calling Blacks, coloured!
