I think Orange contract customers get free 0800 or they did last time I phoned one from my Orange phone. Not sure about PAYG though.

Calls to 0500,0800,0808 and free paging numbers are chargeable on all pay as you go networks.

Orange and Virgin Mobile currently allow free access to large number of charities which use freephone numbers.

Vodafone and orange also allow free access to 0800-REVERSE 0800-738-3773.

The only network that let's you call freephone numbers free of charge is Orange pay monthly, however calls to calling card services are chargeable.

Virgin Mobile offer the cheapest rate to call freephone numbers as they charge the same rate to call landlines which is 15p per minute for first 5 minutes and 5p per minute after that.

T-Mobile and O2 charge the highest rate to call freephone numbers which is currently 40p per minute.

Orange pay as you go charges: 20p per minute.

Calls to freephone numbers from non-bt public street payphones are also free to call, however pager numbers aren't accessable. Payphones located on private land not operated by BT or Spectrum interactive maybe chargeable or barred, for more information contact the payphone operating company.

Virgin Mobile were the last network to offer total free access to freephone numbers which is was stopped in 2000 (Their second year in business).

Ofcom: 0845-714-5000

I'm on 02, and I normally delete the 0 from 0800 and it becomes free. Only tried it on about 3 numbers though, so not guaranteed

O2 make you get rid of the first 0 to acknowledge the charge, this does not make it free.

indeed 0800 numbers are certainly not free on O2. If you dial an 0800 number you will be prompted to redial ommitting the 0. If you dont get rid of the 0 you cannot call the number.

I am sure 0800 numbers are charged at the landline call prices as per tariff on o2.
