Email on 3

Hi..
New customer to 3 ..yes I know...

Now I am really confused with this email business!
I can see how to get an email address..whatever@3mail.com..
but what is the cost of using this?
I will just send small emails - no attachments, no pics, no videos.
Does it cost anything to send/receive?
Or does the cost come from my monthly time allowance?
I can see an addon for £5 which seems to be for those who want to send lots of large attachments.. is this the only option?

ta for any sensible advice!

First of all, good choice on the Three network.

Right, emails on Three, there are a couple of posts on this already but until early next year it's free to send email from your handset. You will however be charged to download emails.

I use my handset for sending and receiving a lot of emails, some times a few meg at a time and I've never really noticed much difference in my bills.

The complete pricing for emails is available on Three's website if you want full details.

Remember that you can now use Hotmail and Yahoo via the £2.50 interenet option. Saves you having another e-mail address if you already use a webmail provider

That must have been one large photo, even my emails that are several meg in size never reach 42p

I often take photos using the camera on the A1000 and email them to people while out and about and I've never seen an email cost more than a couple of pence.

Three do bill these under pennies, are you sure it wasn't 4.2 pence?

In what way is it a scam??

They had an introductory period of free emails that's now expired. That's not a scam.

Nope just checked - was definitely 42p... perhaps the resolution on the camera is a bit high...

I don't think I'll use the function much anyway, its free to send them from home

Just had a clarification from 3 ...

Thank you for your email asking how much it costs to send or receive an email from your handset.

I would like to advise you that the costs of sending and receiving emails are:

Read a small email (less than 10 kilobytes, approx 500 words) it will cost 5p.
Read a medium or large email (10 -100 kilobytes, 500-5000 words, with/without attachments) it will cost 25p.

Send a small or medium email (10-100 kilobytes, 500-5000 words, with/without attachments) it will cost 25p.
Send a large email (100-500 kilobytes, with/without attachments) it will cost 50p.

So those who are on the free email signup, fill ya boots! Don't think I'll be bothering unless I do the monthly topup.
