SE K750i web update
Hi there
I have a a SE K750i on 02. When i try a webupdate about a month ago the webupdate told me i had the lastest version. i tried it the other week and today and it come back with this: Your device is not permitted to use this service Your operator does not approve the use of this service with this device. We look forward to assisting you again soon. Thank you for using the Sony Ericsson Update Service! Anybody else get this with their phone? I havent done anything to the phone other than the mem card which i has in since i brought it. |

Dont quote me on this because Im no expert, but i tried same update on my Vodafone branded 750i and it will not do it, im guessing that your phone may be branded to o2 like mine is to Vodafone, which means you cant update it, there may be a way around it, heck maybe im totally wrong, but i thought id try and help anyway

I wrote and email to sony , they wrote back saying that as my phone is customised by an operator there is no update for it, i said so amazon has ripped me off then as i bought a "Sim Free" phone and it is obvoiusly not. I got no reply to that one. |

It only allows you to upload firmware that has been approved by your network operator & then only if they approve of the SEUS service. I'm not surprised Voda don't release new software, they insist on running their substandard Live! software on it & like to keep a tight control of the software so they can sell more ringtones. O2s phones are normally unbranded and unlocked. However, they've apparently decided to block SEUS's use from this month. Which is nice of them. The firmware on there at the moment is R1N035, you probably have R1L002 & if I were you I'd stick with that, the N varient introduces a load more bugs. Quote:

When did you try updating, aparently it has been down for a while, it wouldn't do mine yesterday, but will today. The phone you bought will be a SIM free phone, you can use other SIM cards in it. SEUS just reads part of the phones memory, which tells you what, if any, branding the phone has, any network stuff on there & the coutry of origin of the phone and then allows access accordingly. It has nothing to do with a phone being SIM free. It's SE's stupid update service - Siemens was much better, you just downloaded a file and installed it. |

there's ways of debranding your phone though, to allow use of SEUS.
My vodafone branded version won't update either, but, such is life. |

only certain network allow you to use the online update service, voda, t-mobile and i think orange are blocked from doing this, o2 were allowed on the k700i due to the compatibilty issue but not sure about the newer phones.

Oh right, My big mouth again lol I just thought sim free was as sony made them with nothing added to it so its a pure phone, Oops lol, your kind of right, the phones are just as Sony Ericsson made them in that there are no network identifiers or other network junk on them at all. However, they still have slight regional variations in the software which makes them all slightly different versions, and if these versions somehow get added to SEUS's reject list it'll tell you that your network operator doesn't support it.
SEUS seems to be working now for unbranded standard UK phones if you wanted to give it a go.
