De-branding my 6230i......
Hello!!! I just got my brand spanking new Nokia 6230i yesterday and it is plastered with T-Mobile rubbish (T-Zones, ringtones, wallpapers etc) and want to get rid of all T-Mobile stuff, I have hated T-Mobile since they forced the 'Everyone' plan on me on my former one2one number, but when I go to delete this stuff it either says "The file is write protected" or "Cannot Delete" or I just don't get a Delete option.
From experience doing a factory reset only reverts the phone to just after T-Mobile (or other Mobile operator, O2, orange, Vodapoo, etc) get their grubby hands on it. Is there a Hard reset that reverts the phone back to when it was first programmed in the Nokia factory? |

you'd need to reflash it, not a simple job if you don't know what you're doing.

As Teleman says it needs a reflash. T-mobile branding can not be removde with out reflashing, and if you are asking the question then it means that you don't have the equipment to do it. Its not the same as it used be some years ago where a simple cable and some software from the internet would work. A Nokia service centre is unlikely to reflash it to anything other than the T-mobile software, but you may be lucky. Otherwise you'll have to pay an independant to do it. Typical costs around £20 for a reflash.

I (used to) understand how to flash a phone, I.E. using an M/F-bus serial cable, some flashing tools, the correct (or patched) ROM for the phone and a fresh set of underwear. I used to partake on unlock-me.co.uk's forums offering some advice, but got bored of it and gave up Mobile phone stuff (except for the odd Nokia DCT3/4 unlocking now and then), but anyway, if I can't do it I'll see if the shop in town can do it......
