So the 2 major weeks start here

In America, their anniversairy week will be our episodes for:

Thursday
Friday
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday

So really we should start celebrating

Before we kick things off with tomorrow beginning the 20th anniversary storylines (they started ages ago but things really kick off tomorrow), let's talk about the last 20 years of Neighbours

My main memory or the one I shall never forget is the death of Daphne Clarke after that Car crash. That was really sad.

I'm confused? Where exactly are you watching it here in the States?

I suppose I have to give the honour to Scott and Charlenes wedding. That was an amazing episode.

Also the episode when then found the car with the flag that ended Daphne's life.

More recently, The passing of Madge Bishop. There are others, just too many to name. - Steph

Scott and Charlenes wedding was just the best i think. And it was so amazing as it was on in about 1988 and it got like 18 million viewers which is just out of this world. Says how much they touched the country.

I think Daphnie is one of the greates characters in neigbours history, she arrived in the first episodes as a stripper....who could have thought that she would end up so popular and a main character. I loved the way she mothered the other characters and took them under her wing, as she did with Mike and Zoe. She of course had a fling with Shane but we knew she was destined to be with Des. The episode where she was run off the road whilst out driving with Gail was a classic and although very young at the time i remember clearly her waking from her coma to say 'i love you to clarkey' before dying. She was great

Another fab character was Gail Robinson......BRING BACK GAIL FULL TIME!

I think Beverley was another good character and the Alessi twins should also come back. Infact I would say the cast of the early 90's were the best.

Some episodes which stick out in my mind are

Clive proposes to Susan and her pram rolls down the road heading for a car
Lucy down the drain
Charlenes arrival
the caravan fire
daphnies car crash
daphnies death
madge marries harold
scott marries charlene
Todd dies
Mrs mangle falls from ladder
Daphnie has her aby
waterhole explosion
paul and gail admit they love eachother / waterhole xmas
The episodes last a a week and in Oz it was mon-fri but for us to overlaps over 2 weeks due to the weekend

As they start on Thursday, i thought we should kick things off with talking about the past and then when the eps start, we can talk about them

Scott and Charlenes wedding always sticks in my mind when thinking of neighbours. That song that they played when Charlene was walking down the isle, it kind of got to you

I think that is one of my earliest memories of Neighbours. I was about 6 at the time and I remember that very sad line: "I love you Clarkey"

It's one of those scenes that is embedded into your memory forever.

That scene was heartbreaking! Watching Des get all excited, thinking Daphne was waking up...

In the late 80s Neighbours was watched by about 90 million UK viewers per week, compared to about 40 for Corrie and 35 for Eastenders. Source - Perfect Blend.

That'd be the combined figure for all 10 episodes shown in a week though. Bit unfair to compare to corrie or ee though, as there were far more eps of neighbours shown at the time.

Neighbours today was rubbish, The Timmins are one of the worst soap families ever. I don't think Neighbours has been that good since the 1995 season. The first 10 years were absolutely classic soap and would be great to have a re-run.

Put the Timmins on one side for a mintue and todays epsidoe was brilliant....it had Harold and Lou, one of the best comedy duos in the programmes history and it had a good story line for SUsan, who is one of the best loved characetrs ever. The ending with SUsan confonting Izzy was brilliant...can't wait to see what happenes next.

I can't believe we have really gotten around to th 'documentary' episoeds. I can't wait to see it all.

I'm sure all the memories will come flooding back again when it is all screened I just hope I don't miss any of the next few episodes.

So sad that ome of the strong caracters will not be able to return for it...Helen Daniels, Madge, Mrs Mangel. They are what h made Neighbours stand out over the years to me and hopefully chracters like them will continue to be part of the cast....rigth now we have Susan moving into such a role and the occasional appearnace from Valda .
