hey guys, i rang o2 earlier cos i really wanted the w800i and the guy i spoke to seemed to know his stuff, he said that the w800i has had some software compatibility issues with the o2 branding software they put on or something!! not sure about that cos i got a mate at work who has one on o2 and his is fine. he's hada couple of weird lockups butnothing major. just ordered a k750i and might get the firmware updated to w800i. see how i like it as it is, will definately get the firmware upgrade that 'lalaland' mentioned with the camera update depending what equipment i need. anyone know what would be needed?
cheers |

im sure there was an issue like that for the k750i a while back, and they stopped selling them for a short while until it was resolved.
im gonna sit tight and wait for the w800i unless something better comes along |

(you can flash it if you are really desperate) Cosmetic wise I prefer the K750i, but it's down to personal choice. Again you can change the case too if you are desperate, for about £20. Paying £30 for the K750i sucks though. I got mine free last month and used the £30 to buy a 500 meg stick like the one that comes with the W800i. You could always try to find someone wanting to swap. My mate tried swapping his W800i with me recently, but I prefer the K750i looks. They are the same phone, different shell, different firmware. If you are really fussed about it either one can be changed to the other for about 20 quid and an hours work, but it's not really worth it (and you could void your warranty). Just one tip for the future, have more patience and wait if you want something badly enoug

happy again
yeh i like the k750 better (just the w800 is a better spec). much more subtle that the w800. anyway i rang o2 and asked for my 30 quid back and they credited it towards my line rental so i ended up getting it free, so im pleased again!!!!
![]() thought about flashing it, what kit do i need to do it? can i use the usb that came with it? im competent with technology so im sure i could do it! ps does flashing the firmware void the warranty? |

Flashing it with an incorrect firmware would more than likely void your warranty as you would have to 'hack' the phone to do so. Yes, you can do this with your standard USB cable contrary to popular belief as the USB cable can be set to service mode. Do a google search for Davinci and Sony Ericsson flashing. |

i know its the same phone, i supose by better spec i meant be the fact it has the better memory (not that it matters cos i got a 512 card yesterday!) and the 'flight mode' (even tho they will tell u to switch it off on a plane!).
i have done a bit of research on flashing the phone already and had read that u needed another cable, ill look into it. i have heard of that davinci software, dont u need an account for it or something? i have seen your name about on another forum as well lalaland!!

For the flashing of the phone, you can do it with the cable provided in the box, but like I said before many don't believe this. To use the cable provided in the box, you need to shut the phone down, wait 10 seconds and then hold down the C button until the unit powers on again. This puts it in service mode and the cable works for flashing, I know that as I upgraded my firmware recently using it (although I kept to K750i software, not W800i). To use Davinci is free, but you will need an account for some of the files that you will require. It's all explained on their website. Good luck with it. ps There are another 3 or 4 forums featuring me, but beware of imposters. Always look for the genuine hologram that proves Lalaland is authentic. |

Mine was brand new the other month, but I still ran it against SEUS and found my firmware wasn't the latest version.
Soon updated it and fixed a bug with the bluetooth and aparantly improved the camera quality too. |

when i switched my phone on for the first time i got a load of pop ups asking if i wanted to install the settings, so mine was all automatic. not tested it out yet but i imagine it will be ok!!!!
by the way my firmware is R1N035, i believe this is the latest version for a k750. considering putting w800 on, this software can be slow and i've had it crash already! i guess there could be similar problems with w800 software though! |

. perhaps O2 are stopping me update because th W800i had a few issues, and maybe they have fixed this by reverting their W800i's to an older firmware maybe! just a guess, unless you two have W800i's also?

I have a friend on Vodafone (unbranded handset) that had problems updating his, but it turns out he missed a step on the update due to their instructions not being 100% clear. When I went to his house to help him he was suprised that there was another step which I'd done and it worked. If it's still not working then try contacting Sony Ericsson support. |
