Initiating a Bluetooth link with other Bluetooth phones.

motorola Razr V3

Just got the above phone. I have followed the instructions and my phone appears to be searching for devices but I can't locate them - even when stood next to a friend and a relative both of whom have bluetooth - and they can't locate me.

Can anyone help?

Dunno about the V3, but my E1000 isn't permanently visible to other phones.

You have to go in and activate "visible" in the bluetooth options. Your phone then becomes visible for 60 seconds. Once paired with another device, it doesn't matter if it's visible to it or not, you should be in their menu to send to.

Dunno about the V3 not picking up other devices, my E1000 has always been OK that way.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that it was a Motorola 'way' of doing their bluetooth. Bit wierd but there you go.

Have to say, the Sony I had before it had much more intuitive bluetooth that the Motorola has.

yeah don't try to "pair" the V3 with the other phone, if you want to send something to the V3 you have to make sure it's discoverable and like my man Sanceez said it'll stay that way for about 60 seconds...

to send something from your V3 you have to choose it, then press the menu button and select copy and it'll then let you Bluetooth the item to another BT device.

Thanks for that. Havn't practised yet but does it not matter that the V3 doesn't even seem to have located theirs at all. My sister has a Nokia and the friend a Samsung and they instantly detected each other.

Also, would they just get no recognigtion of the V3 if there was inadequate space available. It is quite full and I would delete some files but only if it is possible that is the reason why I am having trouble.

Thanks

How are you trying to detect them?

If you're just going into the "Found devices" list, chances are they won't be there.

Again, I'm going by the E1000 here, to find someone I have to select an object to send then options > copy > to bluetooth > search for devices ... at which point if will find any visible devices.

Oh, and the amount of free space on your phone has no bearing on whether other phones can or can't see you and vice-versa.

Thanks very much for all this information. Don't know what I actually did but I must have been doing something wrong because I was able to detect my sister for the first time today and vice versa! I now have her in my device history.

Thanks very much.

Nokia and Sony E phones can leave there bluetooth on and visible all the time, but like one of the previous posters said Motorola (except for smartphones eg A1000) have set their Bluetooth up differently, you have a 60second window to make the phone visible. Bit of a security measure, no being bluejacked for Moto users!!
