Vodafone!

i went into my local Vodafone shop in belfast today looking forward to getting my new nokia n70. they had the phone in stock and i went up to the guy and asked if i could have one.

he asked me what tariff and i said the Anytime 200 for 12months (18month contracts are just to long) @ £30 per month i then asked him how many texts u get per month he said None! U have to buy them seperatly at £10-£15 extra per month for 200 odd texts.

why do vodafone not offer free texts anymore with contracts?

when i came home i checked the Vodafone online store and on there it has the same Anytime 200 for 12months @ £25 per month with 250 free texts. Theres another Anytime 200 (12 month) @ £30 per month this time with 500 free texts.

Why the difference in store tariffs and online tariffs?

this could be very misleading to customers without credit/debit cards who see what phone & tariff they want and go down to the store to find its totally different!

Opinions Appreciated

This page pretty much says it all, online tariffs are Exclusive - it's the same with most networks nowadays, they offer high street and online price plans.

Online price plans come with more free incentives/minutes/texts because they are online based and the company saves money by:

* not having to pay sales staff to sell a phone to you
* not having to send paper bills out, they're email based
* not having to heat, light and water a store for which you to visit to buy a phone

I can understand why you find this misleading, but its just the way the networks run things now

still the in store tariffs are crap

paying £30 a month then another £15 just for texts is a bit much

from what i can remember the other networks give free texts with the minutes

Vodafone in store post pay tariffs are rubbish! O2 contracts have 100 texts included in all price plans.

Tnats only to get you on the network, all I can say is you get what you pay for. In the time I have been with vodafone and on payt for near around ten years NEVER had one problem with Vodafone. (I buy the packs)

O2 shall we not go onto that one....

My aunt tried to rec. a picture message on her phone today (02) dam thing was not working!!!! grrrr

I guess the stores are for
1) People who dont have net access
2) people who won't buy online (security reasons)
3) people who wnats to play with the phone
4) people who want the phone NOW NOW NOW and can't wait 24 hours for it

and for those reasons you have to pay extra. Ive not brought a phone from a shop (excluding my sim free k750) in years and years, the delas are just to good online.

Most networks have 'Online Exclusive' tariffs (even 3!). I think it's partially to with competing with all the 'cash back' offers around online & mainly because obtaining customers through & running a website with online billing only is cheaer than running a chain of stores & having to send out paper bills. The more customers they get online, the better for them. They are just trying to attract more online customers by passing on the savings to the consumer.

Voda's tariff structure is more complicated to some other operators, given that there are still some other service providers that sell it's airtime and offer completely different tariffs to Vodafone direct (I think CPW is one).

To be fair to Voda, they do tell you online that the tariffs are exclusive to online customers & what it is if you buy them in its stores.
