Nokia 6230i
Salt

Hi, you may remember my other thread 'Problem with the link'. I said that my Nokia 6230 broke. Well the Link have given me a replacement phone, the nokia 6230i. They said Mastercare didnt have any Nokia 6230's so they gave me one of these. Would anyone know if this is Brand new or refurbished? It came in a plain purple box, which i take is how they arrive before orange or vodafone etc put their own boxes on. The phone and accessories were all wrapped, whats the chances that its a refurbished model? Thanks, Peter.

Rubbish. As an employee of The Link, I'll admit that yes, sometimes replacement phones are refurbished. This is not the case all the time as you suggest. From experience I'd say that at least half the replacement phones Mastercare provide are new.

If it might be new, why is it not provided in a Nokia Box?

True, I would have expected it to have been in a Nokia box, so perhaps that one is refurbished

What does refurbished actually mean?

Hi, does anyone know what a refurbished phone is?

Usually one that has been returned. In others words someone else had it new, didn't like/couldn't afford it/whatever. It gets returned, and reallocated (sometimes as replacements for broken phones). Since they are returned with some parts missing/broken they can be reboxed.

A-novo, One of the large repair agents grades refurbished phones.

Grade A. 14 day return, no cosmetic damage. Basically as new.

Grade B Phone returned by user under warranty as faulty. Handset repaired. Could have had new fascia / new internal components.

There maybe more, however these are the only two i know that companies used for refurbs.

It is unlikely that there are many refurb 6230i knocking about, however if you claim on insurance there is a higher chance the phone you recieve would be a refurb.
