3 calls up by 100%

3 have sent out letters to customers advising that call charges will be increased as follows from 17th November 2005:

3 to 3 and voicemail retreval up from 5p to 10p per minute and International calls in Bands 1 -4 up by 10p per minute.

Bundled contract minutes are not affected.

Note: 3's Terms and Conditions (Clause 10d) state that if they change their tariffs to your detriment you can cancel the contract giving 30 days notice. So the above may provide the perfect solution for anyone looking to achieve early release from a 3 contract.

They are all at it now, they are grabbing what money they can before people switch over the the emerging technology and dump mobile phones.

H Wompa have probably put their foot down. Not supprising really as they have for the last couple of years spent huge amounts of money attracting new customers. We at work have always said that they will not be able to do this forever.

Voice over IP Dont send Texts, Pics or Vids and you either need a nice box connected to the net with a phone, or use a headset like Skype etc.

Cant see many people dumping a phone to carry a pc base around. Bit more weight in the handbag and sure would not do it myself. Think the mobile has got a few more years out of it yet!!

VoIP can send texts, pics and video.

No thanks, don't want Skype Hype.

Not seen the small PDA's with Wi-Fi? These can be the size of a mobile and allow you to run VoIP software, phone companies are already worried that 3G will be skipped in favour of VoIP and Wi-Fi.

I have one of those nice littles boxes connected to the net, and will be dumping my landline once I have used up the credit I have with them.

Umm this would be a good way to get a new phone and then cancel it as soon as the prices go up

I might get myself a nokia and then get the firmware flashed to Nokia standard.

At the moment only way you can use WiFi is at a hotspot. Only other way at the moment is thorugh a mobile phone. Which goes to the transmitter, though the internet etc etc.

WiFi goes through a normal router at the hotspot. I would not have much calling a taxi at my local Asda to take me home as there is not even one hot spot in the area for wifi.

This is true at the moment, but soon there will be more wi-fi points and with much greater distance of use.

Dont get me wrong I think WiFi is great. But it really has a long way to go and this is only the start. VoIP is great - but I think there will be a price to pay if you want to use this instead of mobiles. For example, look how much money its costs networks such as Orange, 02, Vod etc to install transmitters and the years to build up the network.

Even with the price increase, Three are still;

Still 5p cheaper than Voda to Voda calls

Same price as o2 to o2

Same Price as T-Mobile to T-Mobile

Non-Geographic calls (087, 080, 084, etc) are also up by 50%.

They used to cost 10p/min in 3's videocalling areas and 15p/min outwith - now they are 15p/min everywhere.
