Hi,

I've got a Nokia 1100 (stop sniggering at the back ) and today I bought a PC charger for it from the pund shop (I know what you're thinking, but hear me out ).

I plugged it in the USB port, and into my phone, but the "Not Charging" message appeared. So, I tried an old Nokia 3310 (which uses the same mains charger) and it worked.

Can anyone think of a reason why it doesn't work with my 1100? (It was only £1 so not a major issue, but it would be good to get it working, to save having to scramble around for a mains outlet!! )

Thanks

I had this message before, when the plug wasnt in properly, either in the phone or computer, just check that.

It seems secure enough at both ends. It beeps once in a "nice" pitch (like it normally does when a charger is put in) then beeps in a "not so nice" pitch and comes up with the warning.

They only work with the older phones 3310/8210 etc Something to do with the output voltage that they provide. The newer Nokias need more power, and hence won't charge from USB.

Ah, thanks for that

Oh well - it was only £1. I'm sure I'll find someone who can use it.

Maybe it would work if plugged into a *powered* USB hub rather than relying on the PC's USB sockets to be on spec.

(if it makes you feel any better, I also have an 1100 - It does everything I want a mobile phone to do *plus* it has a built-in torch ).
