Quite how trying to make your posts, which you are expecting others to read, as typo free and acurate as possible could be counted as pretentious I've no idea

Can I suggest you look at the box marked with 'important'

To avoid misunderstandings, please don't use 'txt spk' and ensure your post is relatively typo-free
It's part of the T&C's of this site.

We all make spelling mistakes, grammer mistakes and typos, but its sheer rudness, if you're expecting others to read your postings, not to make them as easy to read and legible as possible.

Pardon? This post is a clear example of why you should be making the effort to type properly. The terms and conditions of using this site have been pointed out to you in relation to what is expected when you post and you have chosen to ignore them. That is just plain rude.

That makes no sense whatsoever, I have no idea what point you're attempting to make.

Keep this up and you'll end up being banned. Your typing is appalling and your attitude stinks.

I kinda agree with the OP to some extent.

On the important part above the message box, it says "To avoid misunderstandings, please dont use 'txt spk', and ensure your post is relatively typo-free", it doesn't say use a spellchecker or make sure your grammar is perfect so that you don't wind up the pedants

In all honesties, there are worse things in life than someone who cannot spell or who puts their comma in the wrong place, I can spell perfectly well and it doesnt bother me as much as seems to bother other people!

Did you know this particular forum is for talking about soaps, believe it or not!

I don't think it's pedantic to expect people to write in comprehensible English. A lot of the OPs posts just don't make sense.

OK, we can all make mistakes but surely expecting people to have a basic grasp of the English language is he very least to expect.

No, it doesn't say use a spell checker bit what it does mean is that you should try to make posts with few mistakes in them. As for grammar, I'd class mistakes in this department as "typos".

I find it rather tiresome when I come across a post which is fairly sloppy due to laziness. It does make it difficult to understand or even read them.

I wouldn't say that wanting to maintain decent standards is "obsessed".

This forum is about communication and if you don't use the basic rules of grammar and spelling then you fail to do that. If you don't communicate, there's little point in posting.

No mate, you're on the wrong board. Can I direct you towards the BBC boards? Oh silly me they've closed of course. I wonder why?

I'm sure he/she does have a basic grasp of the English language, it's a bit of an assumption to make that he/she doesn't.

Still, I don't know why I'm bothering, I should've just ignored this thread which would've been something other people could've done instead of descending to nit-picking

Ha! Now you're all turning on me, cos I've disagreed. For shame..

Sorry, I can't tell what you're saying because your grammar and lack of punctuation is so dire.

I don't think I made that assumption - you're putting words into my mouth. I was speaking in general terms. Perhaps I should have used "one" instead of "you".

Still, I don't know why I'm bothering, I should've just ignored this thread which would've been something other people could've done instead of descending to nit-picking

You chose to enter the discussion. It's sad that when people try to maintain standards they are accused of being sad or "nit-picking".

I have just recvied this mail from the bosses at these boards and have been asked to put on this board and they whole heatldy agree with me so here is what they said

It really shouldn't need saying on a board of such long standing and regular posters BUT it appears a reminder IS necessary..

NO ONE deserves to be made to feel bad because they don't, or can't articulate or spell as well as another individual.

There are many different reasons, none of which is our right to comment upon or criticise, why people come across as less adept in certain areas than others. It is their right to post in whatever way they are able. In my opinion, it's also our duty to try and understand, without negative criticism, and help rather than censure.

Furthermore, as has been stated by some posters, it is a clear breach of COS to attack a person on their spelling, grammar or what you perceive to be their intelligence.

So let's stop it here and now. Thanks

I don't believe a word of this. If they agreed with you so strongly, a mod would make a post in this thread themselves.
