Why is Jonny so popular ?

I just made my vote of the forum poll, and I see that Jonny leads with 39% of the vote. I could see his appeal early on as being lively and a bit of fun, but now he seems to be just a misery. I can undserstand why the other two housemates with double figures in the vote; Alex due to his looks and the farce he causes, and Kate due to her being so honourable and being a team player. I can see why Jonny was popular, but why do people still like him ?

I really don't understand why Kate is so popular, I mean how can anyone take a person who puts metal objects in the mirowave seriously? Let alone vote for her as their favourite?!?

People probably have different criteria for why they like or dislike people. Putting metal things in microwaves is not really a very reliable judge of character - plus how do you know that one of the others won't do it too - there are still several weeks left...

Yeah, that spoon thing, how could anyone vote for someone who did that ?

I'd probably say its because he comes across ( along with Kate ) as being genuine, warm, caring, fun and in short the kind of person most people would want as a friend. Yes, he has been down lately after the nominations/Sandy business and yes, he does seem a bit confused at the moment over the group politics but most see those as human frailties and will accept these weaknesses.

Kate & Jonny are like kids - they got all over-excited when they realised there were no parents in the house, but then when the playground tide turned on them, they went and sulked. Both Kate and Jonny have had "problems" with Alex around his disapproval of their dirty habits, and have struggled to come to terms with any personal criticism.
Kate seems to have "grown" more than Jonny, but remains alarmingly naive. Frankly, if I were parents to either of these two, I'd be worried about leaving them at home when going away for the weekend! By their age, they should be more independent.

Perhaps it is all a ploy by supporters off other housemates to make you think they are really popular hence you may think you do not need to vote to often as they already have enough support.

Jonny is decent, honest, sensitive, caring, and funny?

It's a great shame that he's gone into his shell, somewhere between the original (too loud) Jonny and the new (too gloomy) Jonny and he'd be a certainty.

I hardly think putting a metal object into the microwave makes someone unlikeable. Kate is the only one in that house who can leave with her integrity intact - every other member of the house has at some stage or another proven that they are merely putting up a front which is easily disclosed to the viewers by the myriad of cameras...

Go Kate Go...

Perhaps some people find desperation appealing and he looks/acts like the original desperate man.

Jonny is so popular because whilst he would irritate you with his basic geordie humour he would be invaluable during a minor chip-pan fire emergency. or if your cat caught fire.

Could somebody tell me why Harrold Bishop in Neighbours is so popular?!

It’s far easier to assume Jonny as your favourite housemate purely because you don’t have to explain away your reasons like you would with other housemates. He represents nothing more than the “Craig” factor from series one .. the common-man factor with ‘accent’ .. who will always be assured of lasting to the final week. He is there for the less intellectual viewers who have difficulty making informed choices.

There seem to be a lot of older female admirers for Jonny who are more than probably having difficulty in their current relationship .. for them Jonny has some of the qualities that they would most like to see in their own man.. They could never have [nor probably wish for] someone like Alex or PJ, therefore he represents the best choice out of an already bad bunch.

Elysium,
would you say that Stan Boardman falls into this category? or cheeky Jimmy Kranky?

I'm an older female in a perfectly normal happy relationship, and I would like to see Jonny win for no other reason than I think he deserves it, so quite frankly I think your theory on that is a bit silly

Can you explain what you mean by "they could never have (nor probably wish for) someone like Alex or PJ", as I'm sure you don't mean that as it sounds.

as an intellectual myself I would have to favour Sandy (he's gone) as I too enjoy urinating in dustbins and swearing at youngsters.

I wonder if you would care to qualify your "I think he deserves it.." comment a little more?

So far, the BB experience has affected some more than others. There's still a long way to go. I'd want to keep Jonny to see how he copes with his Incredible Disintegrating Personality, Kate to see whether she reverts to Personality A when back on the rich side, Adele to see whether she will widen her trust circle further than Alex, and Alex because he's just fabulous to watch.

I think your average brainbox would not be choosing an out-and-out favourite yet...

Certainly, but I don't remember you answering my question.

Aside from a period of depression (and I defy anyone not to get depressed in an atmosphere like that) he has been entertaining, has put up with three weeks on the poor side with minimum complaint, and has been the shoulder to cry on for more than one person.

He's a nice, caring guy who obviously thinks the world of his family, and whilst I concede that he does play up to the cameras, can you honestly tell me that the others aren't doing the same but a lot more subtely.

He thinks so much of them, that he's still living off them at age 29! I think the point that people are trying to make about the cameras is that Jonny was so unsubtle about it that it was annoying!

I lived with my parents until I was 28. I was not sponging off them as I paid my way just as I would have had I been on my own. I was happy and they were happy to have me.

How do we know that that is not the case here.

Jonny is probably staying with his parents in case they have a chip-pan fire or their cat catches fire. good on him, I say.
