What the hell is it with Corrie and swearing these past couple of weeks?! Frankie called Danny a b*stard when she discovered his affair with Leanne, and Carol has called him the same thing twice (once when she was talking about hiom to Frankie, and secondly tonight to his face). Is this a new turn-a-round for soaps? The only time I can ever recall swearing was when Roy Evans called his son, Nathan, a b*stard after he realised the truth about him stealing £5000 (and hardcore swearing on Brookside when it went late night, but I will exclude that).

Can anyone else remember when somebody has swore?

Oh for goodness' sake... this is a television drama. A woman has just found out that her ex-husband has been sleeping with her son's fiancee; what do you expect her to say? "Ooh, you little tyke!"?

I can remember watching an afternoon programme about William the Conqueror who was also called William the Bastard. During the programme he was refered to as William the Bastard !!!!

The word bastard has been used on Corrie for years, not often but it has been used when the storyline needs it. Rita Fairclough called Alan a bastard in 1989!

Lol no, but this is pre-watershed and in situations much worse than this words 'acceptable' have been used.

I'm not saying this is all abad thing by the way, just that swearing is rarely heard in soaps. Only bastard is said, NEVER the s or the f word.

To be honest....Don't you think that it's unrealistic to NOT have any swearing?! Soaps are meant to reflect real life aren't they! Try to think about the last time you had a row and didn't swear....?!

The swearing - if you can call it that - doesn't bother me. It's justified by the current major storyline and there are far worse things in life, and kids hear much worse language from their mates at school. Just get over it!

I believe swearing in context is ok, so william the bastard would be ok, calling a dog a bitch, but i dont think its appropriate for corie to use it language so much. Leave that to the likes of 5 and channel four.

I'd much rather hear swearing on Corrie than the constant "flipping" this and "flipping" that, that Steve seems to use every 2 mins. I live in Salford where the fictitious Corrie is meant to be set and I never say "fliiping" except on shrove Tuesday when I flip a pancake (tossing a pancake can often be mistrude )

Still a good thing that mild swearing (well actually, I think it's just a vulgar word, not even swearing) is being portrayed.

On a serious note, I can't see anything wrong with a bit of colourful language in the right place. People are far too sensitive about the slightest thing these days.

And if anyone is worried because their children might hear language that they shouldn't, then maybe they need to think again about the sort of programme they allow them to watch. Just because a programme is pre-watershed it doesn't necessarily mean that it has a U rating.

Totally agree. As I said on another thread which was started the last time "bastard" was used on Corrie, parents really do need to think what they allow their kids to see.

They quite prepared to let them watch affairs, murder, under-age sex etc but out come the compliant letters over the use of a mild swear word, when kids themselves use far worse language in the playground or the park. Some people really need to get a sense of perspective.

Totally agree - why are people so bothered about the odd bit of swearing?? Blimey - 13 year olds are having kids these days.... I think the odd use of a swear word was quite amusing

As said, your kids aren't so innocent, they'll have heard far worse in the playground! Shock horror, they may have even tried a cigarette!
