And I remember thinking that it was a bit weird at the start of the programme that Len said that a lift in the waltz was an absolute no-no, so the stage was set for yer man to be the bad guy.

Woah man calm down. There wasnt any real need for any of that. I wasnt actually attacking Brendon at all. Everyone knows that he's arrogant and all I said was that he's relishing his bad boy image. Noticed I also said that bully boy image was CREATED in Series 2. Not that he himself was a bully. Editing can get you so far. I dnt remember him ever swearing at Nat. He was so patient with her. Sarah Manners was boisterous compared to Nat, yeah but he didnt need to swear at her. Im sure he knew how the public viewd him after that Sarah fiasco and in Series three instead of going back to how he was in S1 we see him screaming at Fiona to be sexy and then her telling everyone that hes being mean to her cos she cant get the Rumba. If he played it smart, he would give the BBC no ammunition in terms if "bad stuff" to edit and show. He would be as placatory as he was with Nat, observe that Fiona indeed is NOT Nat and give her a routine that doesnt make her look like shes chasing him on the floor.

You people get proper passionate about stuff. As for the comment about Karen I wish I could take it back. U make it sound as if I said she danced like she had a wooden leg. The womans been out of competition with no training for 6 years and she just had a baby. Wouldnt every1 expect her to be a little rusty compared to Camilla or Izabella who have not had the strians of childbirth put upon them? Again I wasnt saying it to be mean. It was just an observation I made. Heavens above. I make one observation and everyone jumps down my throat saying I know nothing about the dance world.

No backlash but I think u r misguided. Never rated him as a dancer? possibly one of the best! Why do u think all the male pros have sucha bee in his bonnet about him? They want to beat him cos it would be such an honour for them as dancers!

He is the master and those who don;t see him as much need to see him dance professionally to know what he is capable of!

oh I have seen him dance and my comment stands have been around the competition scene for over 30 years and as the owner of a large dance school myself I am not someone who just watches SCD

Think you've summed up exactly how I feel. Siobhan should never have been voted out. My jaw dropped when I saw it was her and not Fiona and Brendan that were going To me it looked like Brendan was dragging her round the dancefloor. No spark of chemistry at all between them.

Me too, AK! I've got the fast-forwarding-through-Brucie thing down to a fine art. Tess's backstage interviews can be quite enlightening, but the Brucie stuff just winds me up. Still, I guess he has his fans.

I am loving this series. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it last year. It's complete escapism, wonderful stuff.

What makes SCD so much better than all the other "celeb reality shows" (IACGMOOH, CBB etc) is that it's not about who they are, it's about seeing people learning a new skill. It's a wonderful leveller.

Zoe Ball a fab dancer - who'd have thought it? Brilliant stuff. Er I think I've veered off the thread a bit...

I'm not an expert, and can see that Brendan is at least as good as every other male professional on the programme, but I think the key thing is that he has managed to become a "personality" beyond the confines of the show. Because he is a previous winner, and all the tabloid stuff with Camilla and Natasha, and then all the bad boy stuff with Sarah Manners, he has had a lot of attention and the arrogance that comes with that means that (for some people) he's very attractive in an aggressive/passionate/bad boy kind of way - and if you frame this in a bloke who is very skilled at what he does, and has a great body, you could possibly understand why some people are hooked!

Having seen and heard how angry Brendan was after the judges comments on Saturday( he spoke to us in the interval) I can only say he cares very much about what they're doing to Fiona and her confidence.he was so supportive towards her and it wasn't just for the camera's benefit.We spoke to Fiona afterwards and she said she loves him but he's hard.
The BBC are just loving all this bad boy Brendan stuff and clever editing is helping them along.

Fair point... but you must still agree with my general point. Halfpenny aside (and the extent of her childhood training was debatable), most of them are learning a new skill! I agree with PeachUK - Aled was the real winner last year, closely followed IMO by Denise.

This year, they seem to have avoided the "soap actress with 20 years of dance lessons" trap... hope so, anyway. It's brilliant to see the likes of Zoe, Colin and Darren doing so well because they're patently not trained dancers.

tf I'm glad to hear that. I can't help but like Brandan, and it's not just because I want to get inside his tight pants. He carries himself like a dancer (="arrogance"), he is extremely ambitious (="arrogance"), he wants to win ... well of course he does! he works in a very competitive industry. If I were paired with Fiona I'd find it hard to be as supportive of her as he has. He was quite gracious about her on SCDITT last night (....ducks for cover)

Exactly. I know the other dancers are all in the same industry but you have to figure that some of them feel the same way as Brendan (you can tell they all thinks a lot of themselves, Anton anyone? Ian and Darren def give off that vibe after last year) but they don't come off as arrogant because attention isn't drawn to them and they maybe keep it to themselves a bit more.

I could edit some rehearsal footage and paste together every reprimand that happens from any dancer and they'd look bad - and for that matter - did you see Erin admonishing Colin in training on ITT yesterday? If we keep seeing that do you think people are going to call Erin a bully? Is it different because it's a woman telling off a strapping Olympic champion, compared with a strapping man telling off a slightly yielding blonde woman?

I think the personalities of the people have to be taken into account - Colin Jackson said he wanted someone who would push him (and Erin has said he's far harder on himself than she could ever be) - but I guess that's because he's used to training and to winning/being the best - just because he's retired from competative sport dosen't mean he's lost the need to compete or the will to win (I think Denise had it last year - but for some reason with her people thought it meant she was stuck up - but she'd just taken part in the Olympics so I'd say the phrase 'just for fun' didn't really wash with her!). Erin was completely different with Julian last year so it seems that she is adapting her teaching style to her pupils.
Brendon, however, dosen't seem to be able to adapt his style. I think that Natasha was so compliant that he dosen't know what to do with a partner who speaks her mind and disagrees with him! Fiona for all her many and varied faults seems to be a lot tougher than she lets on and Brendon just dosen't seem to be able to work out how to pass on his love and enthusiasm for dancing on to her. I think even if she could start to enjoy dancing even if the actual technique is still ropey it would be far less painful to watch.

I think it's the way the 'admonishing' is done. Erin is generally very lighthearted, whereas the footage they show of brendan (all in the editing of course) he does not come over as lighthearted. It's all in the context. Colin isn't going to storm out/burst into tears, whereas let's be honest, Fiona is - and Brendan needs to take that context into account and not give the cameras any ammunition.

I don't think Brendan is a good teacher unless he has an exceptionally talented pupil. He did well with Natasha, because she had a very good basic talent (oh, and other reasons ). With both Sarah and Fiona he finds himself really floundering. -- Unlike Erin for example, who was lumbered with Julian last year but was unfailingly patient and charming and brought out the best in him (and got her reward by getting Colin this year ).
