Last night they showed a pig which had been spraypainted with pink lines to show where to cut the meat. I was disgusted and then they talk about chopping it up for Christmas.

The poor pig looked distressed and also they were rather rough with the other one.

Anyone else appauled by this storyline and treatment of the pigs? I feel a letter of complaint coming on.

I'm with you on this, Scaryspice. I can't stand animals being used for any kind of entertainment and the spray paint on the pigs disgusted me too. No doubt there are lots of people who really don't care about this sort of thing but I'm glad there are those of us around who do.

I just hope they dont kill the pigs for Christmas. Corrie have done this sort of story before with the Turkey, about time they stopped it.

Isn't spray paint poisonous?? No way they could sell the meat after doing that

I like a rasher of bacon so it didn't bother me that they were talking about making the pig into pork. That's what Fred Elliot does every day after all.

Knowing the scriptwriters it will be a comic storyline rather than anything unpleasant.

Didn't think the pigs looked distressed at all, I am sure they have to have animal welfare people on set to make sure they are treated well.

Not very impressed with Keith's 'free range' claims though, the pigs are in a pen the size of a shoebox (although doubtless only very briefly in real life ).

Put it this way: It's reality. If your vegetarian then fair enough.
But if your not then your going to have to come to terms with the truth that animals do die and we eat them.

Wht are some of you people getting at?

Have you neevr seen pigs on farms? The comments about the spray paint being poisonous are hilarious. I'm sure you'd probably find most pigs on fars (along with most sheep) would be 'spray painted' at some point of their lives. Maybe not to the extreme seen in Cornonation Street, but still...it wouldn't bother the big one bit.

And as for the 'treatment' of the other pig....what the hell was wrong with that.

All this thread has shown is that some people are way out of touch with the real world and farming methods. There was not relaly anything out of the ordinary in how any animal was treated on CS last night.

Come on, look at cows... they get a red hot poker used to mark them! Think they'd love some spraypaint!

Some people will fabricate any old excuse to have a go at Coronation Street.

There are very strict and clear guidelines with regard to the treatment of animals used in the production of television programmes and I'm sure that Granada, being a major production company, will be aware of them and will have followed them to the letter.

End of matter.

(And I hope the spelling in your letter is better than that in your post).

I'd doubt the Pig got that many maybe 40-50? but the swearing would have hit 100plus so its gonna be a heavy fine

Oh, dear..... I realise it wasn't really spray paint, probably just a bit of food dye or something.
I was just having a laugh at the original posters sad attempt at pretend 'shock'.

I didn't actually see that part of the episode as I was dishing up the Sunday roast at the time (shoulder of lamb), so had a look on the ITV web site. The way it was described I was expecting to see a spray-canned 'MUFC' on the little piggy, and the second hanging by a noose from Gails gutter.

(Note to self: learn to use the proper smilies)

Did you actually watch it?

The pigs looked perfectly happy to me. What exactly would the complaints be about?

Ah, that's so funny....I'm thinking those pigs, being on a soap and subject to national scrutiny, would probably be better looked after than a fair number of their porcine pals....

And forget the paint on the pigs, did you see the way Craig was doing his nails? He needs to take a few lessons from his Grandad on how to paint in straight lines...

I agree, they looked delicious.

I was more concerned about the black spraypaint on the young actor and actress in the same scene, surely Social Services should be called.

How patronising are you?? I'm perfectly aware of the reality of animals dying for food. I live in the country and see all sorts of horrors. Nobody is disputing that animals die and we eat them. We are saying that we (personally) don't like to see them as objects of ridicule.
