I was rather surprised when I heard this the other day on Coronation Street. I didn't think it was at all acceptable to swear nearly 90 minutes before the watershed?

Can I ask you, seriously now, if you're also opposed to gay kissing, people bludgeoning each other over heads with crowbars and wrenches, adultery, violence, theft, etc being shown at 7.30pm?

Because there are far more controversial activities go on in Coronation Street than a couple of uses of a commonly-used swear-word.

You misunderstood me. I was asking if it was acceptable, not if I personally accepted it.

i personally think children under 12 should'nt be watching soaps like corrie and EE in the first place. H&A and neighbours would be more suitable! plus using 'bastard' had some realism. what would you say if ur partner etc had an affair.

H&A is definitely a teen if not younger soap. hence the reason most storylines revolve alround young people. Cassie, Ric, Matilda,Henry, Max, Tash, Hayey, Kim, Kirstey, Jade, Kane, Robbie, .........

I don't want to start an argument here, but this is really annoying me: why are you lumping 'gay kissing' in with all the other examples of unsuitable viewing you listed?

I agree that complaining about swearing is pathetic, when there are far worse things shown in soaps, but I don't think two people showing affection towards each other is one of them

I agree
I started watching EE and Neighbours around the same time......that must make me an adult and child all rolled into one
When i was younger 'children' couldn't see neighbours as it was shown at 9am in the morning and 1pm in the afternoon.

So i can't see how it can possibly be aimed at kids
That Air Resistance is all you need to rest your case

I have to agree - Neighbours was my first soap, then Home and Away...and when we watched it, Neighbours was on at lunchtime and then at 5.35 which was when we caught it, just after Newsround...

The old tv watchdog the ITC did rule several years back that bastard was acceptable very occasionally on corrie after accepting the producers argument that it would be highly unrealistic if characters like jim mcdonald (who said it then) didn't swear now and again.

We had no TV in my house when I was a kid. Didnt get one untill I was 13. Before that I would watch H&A and Neighbours in a friends house after school but would not have been allowed to watch Easternders or Corrie. Then when we got the TV my Mam would watch Eastenders and I was allowed to watch that with her. I was never allowed to watch any other soap at home. now that I have my own house I watch - Neighbours, home & Away, emerdale, Eastenders, coronation street and somethimes sink so low as to watch Fair City
I would agree that H&A and Neighbours are for younger audiences.
