This is probably a dumb question..but is there a way..when someone calls me on private number (or whatever it says when people hide their numbers) to show the number. I know of the code to type in on Nokias that shows the number when people do 141..but is there anything else?

It is not possible to reveal a number that has been withheld by 141. Simply because the number is not sent!

The number you see in the display of your phone is generated either in the exchange or in a companies switchboard. When the caller uses 141 the exchange simply does not generate the number. It may instead insert "Withheld" in it's place.

There is however another number generated by the exchange which is the billing number of the line and is never blocked. However ordinary punters are not permitted to see this number. Emergency service operators however can see it. Obviously if you were to dial 141-999 in an emergency and something happened before you had a chance to tell them your address you may be grateful that they can see the number. If you make prank calls though you may not.....

*#30# = check CLIP status i.e. whether *you* are sending your CLI or not.

I also have the time travel code (only works on Nokias). Let me know if you want it.

If the number has been witheld by the person calling the only way you can see the number is if you have a direct connection to the C7 network. In the UK very few companies have access to this. BT and Emergency services (along with other telephone operators) are the only people who are going to have access.

Cannot possibly work ever at all never!

All it actually does is tell you if the caller number display is on or off. It cannot ever reveal the number of a caller that has prefixed their call by 141. The information is simply not there to be revealed.

Believe me I've seen printouts the data sent to and from our company switch and I can assure you that if a caller uses 141 then the data field that normally has the number in it is either totally blank or has a default fill of "Withheld".

it's not that your phone is sent the number but hides it from you until you type some magic code. The number is not even sent.

How foolish! I dont usually pick up phone calls with ID Withheld. If someone wants to talk to me, show me your number so I know who you are!

My Nokia 6610i has been playing up recently.

It only shows peoples Numvbers and not thier names when they call.

I haven't changed any settings (that I know of).

For example:

Instead of saying "Home" calling it says "01234567899" calling, even though this name and number are stored in my phone book, and when I go to dial this number using the name from the phonebook, it works fine.

ALSO, what is this "Time Travel" Code and what does it do?

As already stated the #30# code doesn't show others numbers, it shows yours. To prove a point. I called my mobile with a 141 prefix after using the code and, sure enough, it said "withheld number calling" Possibly the "number showmn" message that appears if you use the *#30# code when your number isn't withheld is confusing people.

Blofeld, I'm not entirely sure why the 6610i would do that but I know that Nokia series 60s will usually only show the number and not name unless all numbers are stored:

a) on the phone memory and not SIM card
b) once only
c) in international format (ie, +44 instead of 0 for a UK number)

SOrry, I have no idea what the time travel code is exactly. In what context did it come up?

Didn't show numbers, but if someone called you who had withheld their number, before they would be connected they had to announce who they were, you would then get a call saying "You have a call from....[recorded name], press 1 to accept this call'.

But I don't know what it is or what it does.

Also, I may try putting my numbers on my Phone, not the card. I just though ti would be taking up memory that I would be using for photos.

Thanks for the tip.
